I do not think they will give you one cent for upgrades and aftermarket equipment. Not sure, but this is what I have heard. Good luck.

I wouldn't expect more than Nada retail unless you specifically insured your mods. My insurance company had me provide a list of all mods and install costs in order to fully insure my rig.

My insurance had me do this as well. Whenever I add something pricey I call them and add it to my "aftermarket" coverage

I don't have aftermarket coverage and I don't think my insurance company offers that option, hence why I keep mine stock and lovin' it.

A previous car I owned back in 2000, (plymouth acclaim) was in a bad accident and was writen off. Due to milage I had accumulated the insurance company I was with wanted to give me next to nothing. I had to fax ALL MY REPAIRS to show that it was in great shape. Finally they gave in to what I asked. So be prepared to fight tooth and nail for anything you added on. Please note I had NO AFTERMARKET parts on that old car.

If they'll go for it at all, they might want you to reinstall the OEM part for any aftermarket part removed.

well I would try to pull the seats, and at least the front bumoer and winch, they are easy... but I would rather just get a big check and a clean slate... so much time and so much money into this jeep, i only got to drive it for 6 months

I could borrow a buddys bumpers to get the good ones back ... and his seats. I would just have to give him the ones out of the replacement jeep

Glad u are ok! Being new to Jeeps, can I ask how it happened? My experience with insurance is this. If the vehicle is already at a junk/scrap yard, they don't care what u take, they have already sold it to the yard. If its still in your yard or their lot, if they won't cover it, and u can still operate the vehicle by replacing it with say another bumper, u can swap it. Until u cash a check, sign it over or take money, it is still yours. Keep that in mind. If hey are being douches, tow it back to your house. Do not let them take possession of it! It will disappear and u will take a loss. Take it home and fight them. Good luck!

If you have a 8k vehicle but added 8k in mods, why should the insurance have to pay a nickel for the mods unless the owner had disclosed the mods to them and had been paying higher rates accordingly? Some companies allow what is called "stated value" insurance for vehicles that are modified or in exceptional shape. You simply state the value and pay accordingly. You will likely need to show proof or have inspected.

If they don't insure after market parts, they better allow you to remove any that are still functional.

Since you have heard so many opinions, I'll add my own. The answer is, it all depends. I've fought and received a little more, but my time fighting and the aggravation were probably not that good an investment. I've been nice and received more, too. Depends on the adjuster, who does work for the company and whose job is to minimize the cost to their employer.

Will they let you keep parts? It all depends, once again. Sweet talk the adjustor and don't be confrontational, you might do a little better. If it is totaled, they might let you take things off it knowing it's only going to salvage. I've taken things off vehicles before with no issue, but I was nice to the adjustor. I don't know where the vehicle is -- if it is home, you could easily strip it out before the adjustor arrives. If it is at a tow place, that might be more difficult, but maybe not impossible.

Finally, as others have stated, don't look for a dime above NADA for your modifications. You probably did not insure this as a special use vehicle, so it is covered for actual cash value. If you look over your policy carefully, you will see the fine print stating modifications are not covered and actual cash value means NADA value for similar vehicles in your area.

Very sorry this happened to you. I hope you and anyone else involved is OK. You can always get another vehicle.

didn't know I had to disclose the mods... and besides, usaa said as long as I have receipts or proof that the item is installed and a way to prove what its worth they will factor that into the check

I believe if its totaled I will opt to buy it back and remove my mods and then continue to part it out

not entirely sure that it is totaled but, I cant see how it wouldn't be, badly damaged hood, badly damaged both fenders, both doors, front roll cage bars, overall paint damage, grill damage, along with windshield.

caught a patch of gravel on the right side of the road, over corrected and went in the ditch, bounced off of a treea nd rolled on to the roof, then it stopped lying on the passenger door, my wife was holding onto the after market "ohshit handle" on the rollcage and it subsequently broke her humerous ... I walked away ... my wrist is sore along with a bruised head.

im lucky ... but not lucky enough to not roll in the first place.....

Look up the book value of a 97 (+/- milage). It's not much The insurance company will calcualte, based on the state it's in a value to decalre it totaled I think it's 70% or so. So even if there is cosmetic repair that exceeds to totalled value, they will decare it. I

've been there. 99 Durango that had minor cosmetic damage and the insurance company totalled it. Note I did have a good amount of mods, which were not covered and do not add into the totalled threshold. The insurance company paid me out for the value. I bought it back for 500 (no brainer). The buy back amount varies by state. I had it repaired for less that the payout and the insurance company reinsured at book value.
