place by my apartment (toms 4x4 superstore) has a rough country 9500 lbs winch just like the one in the link below for $270, seems pretty low and i know you get what you pay for but i thought rough country was a pretty good brand, just wondering if anyone has used this before, i dont go off roading all to much as my jeep is my DD so it will just sit on the bumper for the most part but id like it to work if i ever do need it, thanks!

To the OP,
I have a Champion winch on my yeep. I know it may not be super dependable but being a broke college student as well i feel you. I've used it 3 times so far and try guy that owned the jeep before me used it to pull drivers Outta snow banks. My first time using it was to pull a dodge dakota out of a little accident he got into when he lost control goof down the side of rail road tracks. The second when i dipped my friend end down pretty good ill attach a picture. Third time to pull my buddies XJ out of a mud "puddle" that his jeep died in lol. That being said i use it as little as possible, i prefer tow straps and wheeling with at least one other person. But the picture i attached i was all alone (minus the 2 females inside) and it got the job done!

It came on my jeep when i bought it so i figure ill use it untill its done... hope this helps get us back on track.

people are people. The winch you are looking at is not bad for the money and like anything including Warn some people hate everything. I am saving for a Warn myself but I got an email yesterday about some rebate thing with Smittybilt so who knows, I haven't decided. I'm in the same boat as you, I want a decent winch at a decent price but will rarely use it.

As for the ATV winch I use it as light duty, like when using to get unstuck, I put on tension then gave it gas, put on more tension, never used to pull actually just for a little forward momentum. I get what you are saying and you are right it's a bad choice but broke is broke and I use my head, I know what it is and don't push it.
