Rough idle and rough running under a load...

After endless searching on this I have decided to ask for some help. 97 wrangler sport 105k miles manual. The thing idles rough like it has a "miss" but is somewhat inconsistent. Also going up a hill it wants to act like it's bogging down/sputtering. I had a bad o2 sensor that was causing horrible bucking and stalling under acceleration, fixed that. Did a routine tune up (plugs wires dist cap and rotor) and it didn't seem to help although the parts on there looked pretty nasty. My mechanic (longtime friend) thinks it could be carbon buildup causing the valves to not close properly and recommended a Seafoam treatment (highly argued over as I have read). Any advice that might be helpful as to a solution would be greatly appreciated. Also what are your experience with Seafoam and it's effects/benefits of use. Thanks in advance.

those are the exact symptoms i was having when my TPS went bad, got a borg warner TPS from oreillys, unplugged the battery for 15 minutes durring which i cleaned the throttle body and IAC, have not had a single problem since then, and by exact same symptoms i mean exact lol i even described it as a "miss" when i asked on here, the throttle body is extremely easy to take off, 4 bolts (10MM) , you can leave the cables on and just move it out of the way, the IAC is the sensor on the left side of the TB when looking at your jeep from the front and is held in with 2 torx style screws (t15?), once you get it off take the other 2 torx screws out that hold the sensor to the housing and clean it out with throttle body cleaner, dont be to rough on the plunger tho, spray a bunch down inside the throttle body and around the butteryfly valve and use an old tooth brush or something similar to clean it all out then whipe it up with some rags, put it back together, start it and spray a bit down in the throttle body while its running (you may need to give it some gas while doing this to keep it from dieing), BUT like i said your issue seems to be the TPS, cleaning the TB / IAC is just a bonus (removing the throttle body makes it easier to get the TPS on / off anyway)

found this pic on WF from another thread-

heres the butterfly you want to clean -

and here it is pretty clean-

and heres my IAC after i took it apart, housing on the left, plunger on the right, they were pretty dirty -

$4 dollars of throttle body cleaner and 2 minutes later-

BTW there is a gasket in the IAC if you do decide to take it apart try not to damage it, ive had mine apart a few times and still using the same gasket no problem

I was kinda leaning toward TPS myself after thinking about what I had been reading on it but scgeek12 hit the nail on the head. Definitely sounds like a good starting point, I will try to get it changed out and the TB cleaned out sometime this week and report back. Thanks for the help guys! I knew this was where I would get some answers.

What are the chances of the TPS not throwing a code and affecting it under a load ie hill or trailer as far as bogging down/spuddering? I have heard they could cause rough idle though.

mine threw a code but it would bog down and "miss" at above 1500 rpms, and idle would be anywhere from 300-2000 and looping
