Rough ride

Hello guys, new guy here again. I know jeep will tend to have a rough ride but how rough. I have a 99 that I just bought about a month ago. I know it's short wheel based but when I hit a bump in the road or break in the pavement it feel and sounds like I'm in a suspension less covered wagon. The jeep is stock but the PO put 31's on it. Are they all like this? I'm unsure if the shock have ever been replaced from factory and it has 114000 miles on it. When you hit a bump it feel like the jeep gets kicked up and the rear tracks to the side for a second.

It sounds like it needs shocks. Not sure if you want to lift it but you can get a budget lift with shocks for cheap and the 31's will still look good with the lift.

Check the air pressure in your tires.

Do as others above suggested. Buy new shocks and lower air pressure to around 28psi. Your stock shocks will be black in color. Monroes are good factory replacements.

Yeah they are all in solid black housings. I'm sure I need them. 114000 on stock shocks I'm sure they are toast.

Hell the PO of my Jeep has some sort of RE lift on it and at 60K miles the ride still blows. And this is at 25psi on 33s.

Hoping a well thought out long arm coil-over/sway bar/hydraulic bump-stop combo will make the ride cushy and more capable.

i have stock rubi shocks on my sport with only 20k miles... and they are stiff and crap! train tracks and speed bumps buck my back end up unless i crawl over them. hate it.

Not to sound like a smart-a$$ but drive around (in a different car) and find a car lot with a similar model to your Jeep and take it for a test drive.

I actually did this when I bought my 350z because I thought it drove funny and rode rough. After a quick test drive in another 350 it was obvious my shocks were trash and that I had other issues. Wound up getting all new shocks as well as lower control arm bushings and then she rode perfect.
