Round tail light conversion

I've got an 06' TJ and am looking at doing the round tail light conversion. From what I can find online I will be drilling into my Jeep regardless.....which I'm not too keen on. I was wondering if there were any less expensive alternatives than buying the $120.00 kits they sell on line? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I've seen them on eBay and a couple other sites for $39. I'm trying to hunt down USA made ones with red lenses not clear though so I'm still on the hunt. Good luck to you.

I got them on ebay, yes. They're Maxxima brand. Just search for Maxxima surface mount LED tail lights.

Do these work for the reverse lights as well?

Are you asking if they have clear LEDs for reverse lights in them? No. They're red.

Not to derail too far, but I see you have the black rock aluminum D windows I have my eye on. How do you like them and would you recommend them as a solid wheel?

Sarge, you put it on top of the tire, that way if you forget it, you run over it so no one else can use it> j/k I have a locking cap and I leave my key in it on top of my tire. Can't leave without putting it back.

They seem fine for cheap aftermarket wheels.

After reading this thread i hopped onto ebay real quick and found a maxxima set with a reverse light ring. I think I found a candidate for my conversion.

I cut some discs the same diameter as the tail light out of 1/4" aluminum. Countersunk holes in them to bolt them to the factory tail light holes. Then drill/ tap the aluminum discs for the tail lights.

I looked at those, but they aren't a true surface mount. In other words, you'll have to put a fairly large hole in the tub for the back of the housing as these have a protuding area on the back that the ones like mine do not have. Or, make some spacers like I did, but they'll have to be ~3/4" thick IIRC.
