1 hour is what I used to do. Next time try out lubelocker gaskets though.

Once you do you will say never again, no more dealing with scraping old RTV or trying to line up the bolts with RTV smearing everywhere, especially on the pan gasket for the 42RLE!

Yeah next month I'm gonna buy one I just installed an Aussie in the front diff. Gonna wait and change the fluid to flush all that assembly grease out.

As long as it takes you to bolt on the diff cover and tighten it, then add gear oil. The key is to make sure the cover and diff is completely clean and dry, no gear oil on the sealing surface. I use a paper towel to stuff under the ring gear to make sure no gear oil runs down the sealing area while I clean it with brake spray, then remove the towel just before the cover goes on.

I do prefer "Right Stuff", but I've been using "regular" RTV for years, both on my customers' vehicles and my own. As stated above, make sure it's chemically clean, apply a bead of RTV and install cover. Fill it and go. I can't recall ever having a leaky diff. cover.
