I understand from other posts that Rubicon coils are the same size as my stock X coils, but are stiffer. I am not looking for a additional clearance, but something to help with the weight of the Jeeperman rear bumper that is suppose to be on its way and to help with towing a light trailer. Do you all think the Rubi coils are a good call for my needs? Anyone running rubi coils in your not too modified X?
Also, are Rubi shocks the same or more heavy duty than the stock X shocks?
I'd rather buy a 1.5"-2" coil spacers for the rear, might stick your but up a bit, but with the extra wieght of a tire carrier and trailer, it should look pretty even. Because the Rubi coils are stiffer, you'll have a much stiffer ride, which some don't like.
Tiny Terror - did you notice a difference in your ride? I also have 31" MTRs, which for me improved the ride quality over the stock 28" tires. I'm curious what to expect ride-wise with rubi coils.
AzTJ - I'm nervous about vibes from a lift partiularly with a long road trip in front of me. Do you think it would be an issue? I orginally was going to do a OME upgrade, but after I put the 31s on I think I might hold off on the lift to see how it does with my moderate off roading.
The ride sucks (though the ride was never good, this is my first jeep), but I was informed that I was wrong in thinking that it was the coils.
It's my daily, and the ride doesn't bother me in the least other than my feet don't touch the floor boards so I'm bounced around a lot.
I put on 31's before I installed my spacer lift and the difference off road is 10 fold with the lift (that's with disconnects too). I have minor vibes..... that have become a saga. But most people don't have vibes with a 2 inch lift. I'm lucky and they're minor.
Rubi shocks and coils give a much stiffer ride than the other TJ's. Since you are adding weight in the rear, I wouldn't bother unless you get them virtually free. The stock rake is already bad enough without adding to it and a little weight will make it a little better IMHO.
RedRubiTJ - I'm not sure I understand the "rake" comment. Sorry, I'm a little behind the curve on these things. Are you saying that the stock suspension has the rear higher than the front? I don't think that is the case on mine. I was afraid that the rear would sag with the Jeeperman bumper and tire carrier and make towing that much more difficult.
Yeah, most Jeeps sit a bit ass up on the OEM suspension, but it depends a great deal on what you carry in back. If you do pucks (BB) in the rear it will usually bring it up too high. Have a friend sit in the back or stand on the rear bumper and that will give you an idea of how much difference in height the Jeeperman rear with swingway is. IIRC it is about 95lbs shipping weight for both bumper (50) and swingaway (45).
