Rubicon dana 44

Just did the pinion bearings in the front rear on my 05 rubicon, factory 4.11s. When i pulled the pinion out there teeth on the pinion were rounded and smooth not sharp and flat like the rest. I have built alot of rears and turn wrenchs for a living and have never seen this before nor have the guys i work with. The rears not noisy at all. Any on else with a dana 44 seen this before?
