rust !!!!

I've got a '97 TJ - so natually there's a "bit" of rust on her - - but NONE on the frame or in the tub..........

However there is some rust around the torx bolts that run through the hood henges (connetcting the hood to the cowl)

Just wondering what everyone reccomends to fix the issues........

Thanks

Got some pics? If im understanding correctly then seems like you need to remove the hinges and sand them down. You can either repaint them the same color or bedline them and never have that problem again. Other places I would check for rust are the under the windshield (fold it down), under the carpets, and between the frame and the transfer case skid plate. These are all common issues with out beloved TJ's.

I bought my 02 just recently from a guy that did alot of highway driving, hence it has lots of little stone chips. He never did anything about them and they are starting to rust. TThey are located in the usual places, front grille, front windshield pillars, windshield hinges, etc. A local body guy told me he would respray the and fix the rust for 1k. I really don't mind the little spots that much and don't have 1k burning a hole in my pocket but I don't want the rust to get worse. Any ideas?

Well for the paint chips that arent rusted yet, I would recommend to fill those with paint as fast as possible. I used a hypodermic needle with some color matched paint to fill those spots. Just break off the pointy end and you will have a perfect squirter for the paint. For the spots that are rusted already... maybe try some rust converter or sand it down and paint. 1k is a bit much to paint your hood, fenders, and grille. but alot of that is prep. and unless this guy is a friend of yours I wouldnt trust him to prep the surface properly, he will likely just scuff up those areas and paint right over the forming rust.
