Rust? Bought used 01 tj (pics)

Hi all,

New to the jeep community but I've read a considerable amount on the rust that seems to plague these beauts. Just bought an 01 tj bout a month ago and wanted to receive some input on if the level of rust is worrisome (see attachments). Any way I can stop/slow the progression?

Many thanks

Lol, Just scuff it and shoot it with some spray paint. Its not serious, just surface rust. Dont worry.

Think we can make it...

Ya I wish mine was that nice.

If you can't see right through it, it's not bad

I don't see any frame rust...(these pics are of components like the drive shaft)...the frame is what you need to worry about. Take some pics of the frame in front of the rear tires, skid plate and check for tub rust.

Bringing up an old topic. Thanks for the info. When you say "scuff it", do you mean sand it down? And then spray paint with a metal color? Apologies, im not mechanically inclined and this is my first jeep.

don't bother coating the driveshaft there is nothing to worry about there.....on the steering box you could just hit it with POR-15 Chassis Coat, that stuff sticks to anything and will make your components look new and prevent further rust but as was said the rust we do see is nothing to worry about. you can get POR15 at Amazon.
