Rust-oleum Automobile Primer

Word on the street is, if I've sanded down to my metal through the paint in my Jeep tub, that my Raptor liner wont stick when I end up spraying. I bought some Rust-oleum automobile primer this evening (For ultimate finish, fast drying and wet sandable.) Will this be O.K to spray onto once I'm done? (it's grey, my tub is red, however, the Raptor liner will be black.) Is this necessary? On another note, nearly done with the tub, so it'll be a couple more weeks till I come back with more ridiculous questions.

I'm sure it will be OK, but U-Pol recommends an acid etching primer for bare metal. It's supposed to stick better to metal than other primers. U-Pol sells their brand, but Rustoleum makes one too. If it's not a large area though, you're probably fine with the other.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to call Raptor tomorrow, but I didn't want to wait. I've been prepping this thing for so long that it's starting to drive me wild. I've only got my passenger seat in there, and I even took out the seatbelts, so every time I want to get to work, I've gotta put my seat back in. I ended up spraying the whole thing with the primer, as there are parts that are scuffed to the metal all over the tub. This, IMO, was also good practice for when I actually spray the tub. My only concern is going to be spraying the black on black. At least the upol will show up wet, I presume.

My buddy thought no seats was hilarious, wanted a picture:

Sprayed with the primer:

I'm just letting it dry atm. Tonight I washed it (twice), dried it. Cleaned it out with Acetone. Then sprayed the primer. Tomorrow night after work I'm hoping to mask and tape and wrap everything off and finally get to spraying. I really just want to make sure I don't rush it at the very end, my prep has been soooo careful!

Make sure you thoroughly wash the area to be primed and then use a quality degreaser to get the best primer adhesion.

Edit: Never mind...

Haha, thanks Dfry. Hopefully this will do the trick. I'd really not like to have to come back and touch it up in a year or so, I've put A LOT of work into it so far, and I'd hate to have the last thing I do screw it up.
