rust on front fenders

hey guys. I started getting the rust on the front fenders of my 99. I was thinking id bring it to a local body shop to get it cut out and replaced and painted. Anybody have a rough idea of what something like that should cost from a shop. i dont want to have to go through that work myself. Also.. think the paint will be able to be matched? its the gun metal blue 99 paint. Thanks all

I would take it to several reputable shops and see who gives the best price and who gives you most desirable approach as to how they plan on doing the work (ie cutting and patching with metal rather than just stuffing with body filler). They should be able to match the color fairly close but new paint will probably shine more than the original, especially with the age. Some may want to replace the entire fender and depending on the extend of damage, it might be cheaper to do it that way.

Keep in mind that you can buy a new fender off Ebay that is pre-painted to your color for about $275. It would probably be hard to beat that price having a shop do your repair.

Didn't realize you could do that but I would say Jim is right.

To slow down process drill small holes from below up into the "patch", for lack of a better word, that you can see when looking from ground up. There is a material between patch and actual fender that is quite absorbant and retains water, if it is able to drain might slow it down. Mine are bad its 3rd on my list, I think I will get mine cut and patched up, I like the more traditional Tj look than flat fenders, I was quoted $130 from fabricator, he suggested flat style tube fenders since we were cutting. Probably cheaper all said and done than a new fender purchase install maybe, even if you do it yourself. Good luck.

I just finished doing my driver side fender all the way through with primer paint and have the color match waiting for me in my garage. You just need to look at the paint code on the inside of your door and order it. All said and done I've spent 60 dollars on materials 15 dollars on beer and a day off from work. Next step is buying a cheap welder and hitting the rocker panels. Might as well learn otherwise it will end up costing a small fortune. Good luck!

Now would be a great time to switch to some tube fenders. Pricey, but will give you more flex room.

ya. i do like the idea of ordering the fenders offline. iv looked around online and there pretty reasonable. except the ebay one says they do not sip to Canada? il have to find another site. How was it installing the fenders? did they line up correctly. also do they pre-fab the signal light hole before or is that done after.
il see what a local body shop has to say and what they price it out as to cut out and reform the metal

Replacing the fender is totally plug and play, nothing to drill, cut or otherwise. I have done 3 direct replacements so far and they were a snap. Strictly an un-bolt / re-bolt project.

Everything is cut out.

I bought my fenders here:
Discount Body Parts - 1999 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) Fender

And my local guy charged me $150 per fender for a pro paint job.
