salvage Rubicon axles?

I was wondering what I'd need to take from a donor Rubicon to swap my stock axles(05 LJ unlimited) for Rubicon axles. Also, what would a fair price be for the used parts?

you only need the front as your LJ all ready has a rear D44. Discs to discs on the front and you should be good to go. You will need to regear one of the axles as the rubi has 4.10's

What about pulling the rear Rubi diff and pinion? What would I need to hook up the lockers? Air or elec? A coworker has the same model as me but it's a Rubi and I looked under his rig and saw wires coming out of his front diff.

After reading another post it seems my money would be better spent on lockers and new r&p.

I'm not sure but I think you;ll need new brake line hoses to the rear...rubicons are all four disc brakes...i believe the LJs had drums on their rears...dont quote me..

Ultimately what size tires do you plan on running? All that work on the D44 front may be in vain if you just plan on running 31s/33s

I have 4 wheel disc brakes and I'm running 33 12.50's now. The reason I'm wanting to do this is because I want to regear and install lockers but I want to compare the cost versus buying lockers and R&P. I currently have 3.73 gears but I'd like 4.10's. If I can swap the front and rear diff and pinion for less that would be great.

I'd play with the math on price and weights (pros/cons) of getting 4.10 axles vs just regearing

4.11 for 3 speed auto
4.56 for 4 speed auto/5speed manual(?)

Most gearing at shops will run you ~1-1.5K after parts and labor. If you can find axles for about that cost and do the labor yourself I say go for it!

That's exactly my point because I plan on diy. I can regear for $500 on parts cost. Now add two lockers and I'd be at about $2200. Now the key is to obtain an axle and rear matching internals for less than 2k. If this is possible, it's on my to do list.
Unless another option is found for less $.
