Salvage title

I have come across an 04 rubicon with a salvage title. A year ago the jeep was set on fire in the driveway of the owner. i know the man who owns the jeep and he has rebuilt it according to the year and jeep requirements. Is there anything i should look for that might be trouble? It sounds bad, but almost a years worth of work has gone into reviving it from the dead, and he is selling it for 12500.Good deal, Or bad?

How is the wiring harness? If it is fried, that can cause a ton of man hours to fix. You will have to weigh the pro's and con's very carefully on this one.

Assuming that it is in good working condition then the only other problem you might have is getting it insured with your insurance company. I would talk to them first and see what kind of hassles they might give you with it. Might also check in your state and see if there are any odd requirements for registering a salvage titled vehicle.

Otherwise you should be good to go. Sounds like a pretty good deal.

One thing you must keep in mind is that it might be worth something to you now but later on down the road a vehicle with a salvage title is almost useless. If you ever try to trade the vehicle in at a dealership they will most likely run from it. Also, if you try selling it later on you'll have to spend hours explaining the Jeeps history to every potential buyer.

However, if you plan on buying it and driving it forever the salvage title issue is almost non-existant. I would say in the short term I would stay away from anything with a salvage title. In the long term you'd probably be ok.

Just my .02...
