Sanded down hard top bumps

I know people talked and thought about it but has anyone sanded down the hard top bumps and painted it?

No sir, I always get quotes from body shops and go with the best price and reputation. I had to do it for my hard top.

Do it...I sanded mine down on my yj and base coat clear coated it. Turned out awesome. Always get compliments on it. Plus its way easier to wash it.

I think the final effect will depend on the color. I've seen smooth yellow and red ones and they looked wrong, or politely saying they looked like crap. It upsets the balance of how a Jeep should look and draws way too much attention to what is generally fairly understated looking tops in both the matte finish hard top and the non shiny soft top materials they use.

Purely my subjective opinion though. You may like it.

Well mine is gray and i want a black one. If i paint it i might smooth it all out. I know if you pollish it hard enough it will smooth out and shine up. There is a quarter size area that is flat and shinny.

Just took top off and taped all windows and interior. It sands really easy. Just make sure to prime it first .

Smooth out Hardtop

Steelerwheeler, you have a badass Jeep bro. Really cool, im thinking of smoothing my hardtop and instead of painting same red as Jeep. I want to paint flat red or maybe flat black. Im not sure....

I seen a 4 door JK the other day driving around, it was white and had a white smooth hard top on it, all the bumpers and rock slides were powder coated white as well. It looked sick as hell.
Only issue if you take that up the hill you will see every little scratch super easy. I'm sure its a pavement queen, but a damn fine one lol.

I welded brackets on the cage up to the hardtop and bolted through. That way I cant use the rack when goin topless.

It looks great, but I think I would want the option of using it topless
