Went to visit my sister and brother-in-law this past weekend and saw his new JK. It's a nice ride and I loved his stock height & tires over my '04. (Rocky Mtn Edition) Seems like all we did was talk tires and lifts so I'm finally starting to save up for mine. Lol Reading posts on the topic I think I've decided on a Zone 3" suspension lift and BFG A/T's in 33x10.5x15. I don't know why but I like the tires a bit skinnier. I chose the 33's because I don't do any serious offroading, just forest trails and camping for the most part. I'm kinda pumped about getting it all done. I've done some minor mudding with my stock suspension and 30" tires and it's handled perfectly. Can't wait to get a bit more height.

Sounds like a good setup to me

Don't sell yourself short, you can do some REAL offroading on 33s. That's all they ran 20-30 years ago before huge tires, rockwells, etc got big.

Without a doubt. I'm sure this will take me anywhere I'd like to go and there are plenty of places around the valley. This isn't my first 4x4 but it is the first one I've ever modified. (however slight) Down the road I know I'll want to do more.

Well, after digging through other threads and doing as much research as I can it looks like I'll be making some additional buys. JKS adjustable track bar and possibly some Spider Trax spacers if I change from 33x10.5 to 33x12.5 BFG A/T's. (so I can keep my stock Alcoa rims)

I've also seen a lot of you guys who have the 3" zone comment that it takes a lot longer that the specified 6 hrs to install. Is this due to the old parts being more difficult than expected to remove? This is not a rustbelt vehicle and is very clean underneath. PO was not an offroader so I don't think it had ever seen a trail till I took it on some. I'll still soak parts in PB but I'm hoping I don't have as difficult a time.

Fwiw I love my 33x10.5s. Look into the metal cloak adjustable track bars. I love mine.

Make sure to do some research on the MC track bar's clearance.

And unless you've installed a lift before, it'll probably take you more than 6 hrs. depending upon how many parts you replace. It took me 8 or 9 for my DPG ultimate kit (not counting bl and mml, haven't installed that yet.....) and I don't live in the rust belt either. But those bolts haven't moved since they were installed. So just consider that. I should've PB Blaster'ed mine but didn't. It all worked out, just had to use a little more muscle at times (I also have a '98 though so yours is a youngin compared to mine )

I'm waiting to order the track bar till next month so I'll have time to research both. I've read good reviews on the JKS and mixed on MC.

This will be my first lift install but I'll have help so hopefully it won't take too long. I'm planning on a long day regardless. I figure I'll start to spray parts a week or so beforehand.

Yep. Definitely plan a full day unless you're gonna break it up.

And whine you've got your springs out anyway, you should check the track bar for clearance issues (along with shocks bottoming out) and take pictures of the clearance stuff. Especially if you get the MC track bar. But pictures of the JKS I'm sure would be welcomed as well. Anyway, good luck!

That thread is amazing. I want an MC track bar now. Along with their 3.5" lift. But that'll wait a while since I just put the DPG ultimate lift on last summer I guess I just love working on my jeep. Too bad I don't have a money tree in the back yard.

When my kids tell me they want something (that they don't really need) I alway tell them my bank account isn't infinite. Then when I'm looking at Jeep stuff I have to tell myself the same thing. LOL

Yeah when I saw you say look into the MC clearance, I haven't heard any problems with it and thought by showing that it would be enough proof on how good it is.

If you had a JK and a gold coin they are doing a promo that you can get a 2.5/3.5" lift for a single one ounce gold coin.

Lift kit arrived and is all in order. Now I just need to order a track bar and get the tires. I'm leaning towards the MC adjustable as it's received good reviews and is actually cheaper than the JKS or Rubicon Express.

Did you spray those shocks yourself? I was looking into this lift but wasn't to keen on the look of it.

They came that way, but those are the nitro shocks. (upgrade) The standard shocks are white, I think. Since I have an '04 this is their J3 model kit.

My lift is here, tires are ready to install, and a new MC adjustable track bar is on the way. My sway bar links were supposed to come with bushings pre-installed but they came separate. How hard are the bushings to push into the end? Will I need a mallet? Any tips?

I installed the same lift a few months ago.the bushings pop right in with a little grease and a mallet.I used track bar relocation brackets.They seemed to work fine.It took me about 15 hrs. to install mine.I went slow and took my time.I also had a few beer brakes.

Thanks for the tip on the bushings. I have a relocation bracket for the rear track bar but went ahead with the adjustable for the front. I've heard it's a two day job and 15 hrs seems to be about average. I'll have a buddy helping, and yes, beer breaks are mandatory.

Did you notice any vibes after install? It seems to be hit or miss as far as whether or not people have a problem.

I didnt have any vibes with mine...

i'm essentially running the zone 4.25 kit along with the 1" mml and nitro shocks.

I got my zone kit before the 4.25 kit was offered and after the 3" kit settled i had about 3.75" of lift and i ran the tcase drop for a while. Eventually i took the tcase drop off and put the mml on there with my 1.25 body lift.

No vibes with 3" and tcase drop
vibes with 3" lift and no tcase
no vibes with 3" lift, 1.25" bl, and 1"mml

Glad to hear it. I know I'll eventually do the SYE and a BL but just ran out of funds for the time being. How do you like the nitro shocks? I also went with that upgrade.

Yeah, i plan to do the SYE as well because i'm going to be doing a tummy tuck in the near future. The jeep is getting a new 8.8 axle, gears, and 35's so figure i'll go ahead and do the tummy tuck at the same time! With all of that, i definitely know what its like to run out of funds haha...

hell, i'm out of funds right now!!!

The nitro shocks are just fine...i originally ran the hydro shocks and ended up blowing one of them out during a trip a few months ago but just never got around to fixing them until now.

They ride a bit rough on the street but they do great offroad and take the larger obstacles like a champ...you'll be satisfied with them

Every vehicle I've owned except one has been a truck or SUV so a rough ride doesn't phase me. Look forward to my track bar coming in so I can finally get everything installed.
