SE TJ HVAC panel lights

I've got an 2002 SE trim TJ that has no lighting in the A/C- fan- temp control panel. Figuring it was just a failed bulb, i pulled the dash bezel and the control box out of the dash, and pulled the cover off of the panel- the bulbs were there, but there was no wiring run to them.

Is this something that was omitted on SE trim levels? Any reason that the previous owner may have removed the wiring? Any way to rewire without having to pull the whole dash? Female connectors for bulbs on back off the switch box seem to be in good shape. All other dash lights in instrument cluster work, as does the aftermarket stereo head.

Weird. My 97 Se has lit up HVAC. I put blue leds in it and it looks awesome

Picture? Mine has bulbs that twist onto a pc board. No wires. Not sure if yours is the same, but it might be.

They don't have wires, it's trace contacts built into the unit.

I'll open up again and check continuity in the circuit. The trace wiring is just run through one of the switches I assume?

There should be a wiring harness plug connected to the panel
