Seat Covers: Spice, Black or none at all?

Hi everyone,

I'm undecided on what to do with the interior of my '97 TJ. It's a lovely color of green, with spice interior and hard/soft tops.

Right now the interior is looking a bit worn - tear in the driver seat, cracking on the door, the usual stuff.

Can I have some people's opinions? Debating between:

1. Going all out with some Wet Okole's spice/black covers.

2. Getting some black neoprene covers from JCWhitney.

3. 60 bucks on the Spice Rugged Ridge seat protectors (vests).

4. Cleaning it really good? And getting it redone in a few years. :P

I can't find any pictures of anyone with spice interior and covers. I'm afraid with black seats (front and back) it might look a little weird. Don't want to spend $400 on WO's to have them look funny.

Any thoughts? Will update with some interior pictures tonight. Here's one until then:

Edit: One last thought, I'm putting black fender flares on her next week as the current ones are very faded.

Dan, can you post a pic of the seats from the front?

don't bother with neoprene...it gets nasty. W.O. do seem to be the best neoprene seats, but there are much better options out there. IMO

If you like leather (or synthetic leather) look at my Jeep profile, those are Iggee's - you can get them in any number of configurations. buy them from the manufacturer on ebay, and look at the wording in the auction, many times you can get the rear seat cover for free.

If you like cloth then look at the post above mine. InfernoGirl makes seat covers, and has many a happy customer. (click the "dirty mudder seat covers" link).

black seats in a tan interior look pretty good IMO. I did that in a previous car....(mazda miata fwiw). the seats added some contrast.

I'll get them on here in about an hour when I'm home from work.

@mrcarcrazy: will take a look on ebay!

Wish I could find some pics of spice with black seats. I've contacted most spice owners here on the forums already.

Or throw in some new seats! For less than covers cost, I got some cloth seats out of a 99. $100 for all 3 in perfect shape. CL rules!

If I was in the US, I'd tear out the carpeting and put some bed liner in it along with new seats all around.

Unfortunately that costs about $2000 US over here. Oh, the things I miss.

The reason I'm thinking about seat covers is I have family coming over to visit in 3 weeks, and can stow some stuff in their suitcases. Already have front / back bumper caps (to replace the milk jugs), new billeted fuel door to match the new black fender flares.

Looking for more to buy! Must shop at reasonable prices!

If you want to go with some extremely durable and 100% waterproof seat covers, try marathonseatcovers.com. They're pretty expensive but well worth it.

Couldn't get home before dark to take any, will do it in the morning I guess.

In the meantime, here is one that is exactly like mine from a fellow forum user:

Not to worry, that pic is fine. Just wanted to see for sure what you have. I know we'd discussed seatcovers, but I don't think at this time that mine will be what you need. Thanks for thinking of me tho...

If you do the Iggee's you'll have to be prompt...they are made to order, and are not very fast...

I bought the JC Whitney neopreme black and tan but returned them for all black, the tan did'nt match at all (my interior is khaki), they fit well and don't get too hot.

X2 on the advice to avoid any neoprene seat covers. Neoprene is not waterproof as their ads imply and many believe. Water can soak into neoprene where it will take days to dry out, forcing you to sit on a towel. Wet Okole's brand-name should give ample warning for that problem as "Wet Okole" translates from Hawaiian to mean literally "Wet Butt".

Not to mention the colored nylon that covers the neoprene fades rapidly and unevenly. Black nylon turns purple, red turns pink, etc.

The very last seat cover material I would ever install is neoprene.

Thanks for the advice so far everyone. InfernoGirl, sorry it didnt work out. I know you were hesitant to try on vinyl anyway.

Right now leaning toward the Rugged Ridge Seat Protectors:

Jeep Seat Protector Pair All 76-06 Jeeps, Spice Fabric: eBay Motors (item 230463936719 end time Oct-15-10 13:50:22 PDT)

80 bucks isnt the world... worried how they would look and how practical / sturdy it is.

I'll keep looking until I'm sure!

look for those on "jeepforum.com"

I seem to find even more product reviews on that forum...some of the covers like those get pretty poor reviews, but I don't know about that one.

I forgot to mention a good all around cover - Bestop.

they are a one piece design which has its downfalls, but in general they are a good, tough cover based on the reviews from people that have owned them.
