Secure winch

I'm getting my winch in a week or so, how would you recommend I prevent it from being stolen?(for little or no $)

I have a warn winch on the mounting plate, and if someone can figure out how to get if off quickly, I'll let them keep it.

I just got my Mile Marker winch and mounting plate was easy to install. But it would take someone a little bit to take it off plus its heavy as hell.

I have a question about protecting my winch from the weather? Does it hurt the winch to get rained on or snowed on or wet from wheeling.

I had no drilling, but unless theres a Jeeper around with their torx bits on the side of the seat and wanting that winch, its prolly not gonna get stolen.Bolts on using the stock tow hook bolts.

Tack a small weld to one of the nuts or bolt head. You will have to grind the weld if you ever want to take the nut or bolt off, but it reduces the chance of someone stealing it.

Mine uses a tompken plate and there are around 5 different sized bolts including the torx, so it would take a few minutes with all the right tools.

You can always pick up oddball bolts or something, weld a bolt (although this may decrease the strength of the bolt) put a bolt lock on one of the heads.

Unless you use some really hard steel (like Grade 8) an easy sawzall / drill and you can pop them off in no time. Prob easier than screwing around with different nut sizes. Also, depending on the thickness of the bolt, a nice small bottle of liquid nitrogen and a hammer will make the metal nice and brittle and POP it right off.

Only way to really get it to stay on is to bolt it on, and then actually Tack weld the winch mounting plate to the place where it will stay permanently. If / when you want to take it of just grind down the tack welds and u are good to go.

Good luck w/ the security!

For only 39.99 you can get this powerful double sided tape and lock. But wait, theres more. Call in the next 38 seconds and we'll throw in a gold crown air freshner for your dashboard.

Just finished my installation last night. I installed a Smittybilt winch on a heavy duty warn mount. Eveything went smooth except for having to make the head of the two large bolts that attach the cable guide thinner to allow for the 4 winch mounting bolts to line up. (had to make them about 2/3 the original thickness. Everything else went rather smooth. Hope this helps!
