Sell TJ for 2012 Rubi?

Ok, Im now thinking of selling my 02 and going for the new Rubicon. right now my Jeep is a weekend ride and I think I want a nicer one to have as a day to day. I could get rid of my sedan. Anyone with an opinion on this is welcome!

the obvious remains about the off road capability but I LOVE the new interior two tone look of the Rubicon.

I do like tj's more than jk's, but its hard to find a flaw with that plan...new rubi and you get to drive it everyday, seems like a win win to me, do it!

Hmmm. Might want to do some research on the Pentastar engine first. I've read some ominous-sounding early reports about it. Considering the nature of the internet however, there might as easily just be nothing to the stories at all.

I've started to hear abou that too, not sure if it was just a certain time frame of defective parts or the motor its self in its entirety

Sold my 06 LJ with lots of up grades for a 12 JK Sport and no regrets. Plus it's the first new Jeep in the 30+ years of owning Jeeps.

I personally wouldn't worry a whole lot about that, seems most of the issues were in Jeeps made in Fall 2011, so most of those Jeeps should be sold already. Also, Chrysler has made over 1,000,000 Pentastars now, so there's going to be a few bad eggs.

please ditch the crappy plastic fenders then I'll say it's a great idea. Other than that, I rode with a JK and he out performed my TJ and my other buddy's TJ. It was also 3 months old but the JK def performs. I just prefer a closer to classic Jeep though

My 2012 JK Rubi is a great rig, had it 4 months now 2000miles on it so far. Ride the bus to work during the week.

Ordered it "fall 2011". Came down the line with the MW3's.

No problems yet.

Does incredible off road, beach, and snow.

If I was buying a DD it would be a Sahara or Sport. I like the Rubicon ride but not on a daily basis.

Bought mine as a recreational vehicle. I avg 15-16 mpg. The power makes it difficult to keep your foot out of it.

No regrets.

I couldn't handle the over-intrusive computer and double walled tub. Other than that, cool rigs. I'd rather take the axles and put them under a TJ.

If you get the jk just make sure to ditch that stupid looking front bumper and those goofy plastic fenders

I almost considered a jk before buying my 06 tj rubi, but the 3.8 kept me away (this was before the pentastar) and theres just something about them that looks and feels cheap and mass produced...they just seem created for the average suv driver who always thought jeeps were cool but didnt want to sacrafice power options and the comfy, quiet ride their current pathfinder, explorer, grand cheroke, ect had to offer...especially the 4 doors.

I know that they've been proven to be just as, if not more capable than a tj, but i wonder how the long term reliability will be with all the extra electronics.

I think the tj was the best, most balanced wrangler created to date...coil springs, bullet proof 4.0 exclusive to jeeps, nice enough interior to be a comfy dd but simple too without all the power bells and whistles, simple and easy to work out, cheap to repair...the list goes on

But change is inevitable, and im sure you'll be happy with the jk, especially a rubi

I really didn't like the JKs because of the over dose of plastic on the Flares and Bumpers also. Then I realized that i changed those out of my TJ and I'd probably do the same with a JK, which would remove most of the negatives for it. I'm toying with the idea of getting a '13 JK as a second Jeep. I'd probably go all out with a Rubi, but I haven't decided.

Check out this JP article from April 2011:

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Vs. Regular Wrangler - Jp Magazine

The debate is whether to buy a Sport and build it or buy a Rubi and run it as is. If you aren't one to upgrade/modify, then this article may only be an interesting read.

Haha I just read that the other day! It is a good read And has me thinking but I might just go with a rubicon anyway whenever I get the chance

It always comes down to how you're going to use the vehicle.....and what you can afford! Just don't let your Rubi stay Mall Rated!

Great article and that was exactly my mentality when shopping for my jeep. I dont have any plans of going to 35's and building an all out trail rig with full width axles and all that...

i wanted the rubi because it gives me a perfect balance of a dd and and extremely capable off road vehicle on the weekends. I plan to keep everything it was equiped with, eventually throw 3-4 inches of lift on it with 33's, armour it up and throw a winch on it. It'll take me anywhere i want to go at that stage and even now, just stock, its unbelievably capable.

I dont really understand the issue they had with the gearing though...yes 4wd low range is VERY low and has a low max speed...but with the 6 speed and 4.10 gears, its geared low enough that you can just leave it in 4wd high range in first, second or third and mud bog to your hearts delight, no need for low range there. Just 2 cents...

Oh yeah!

One huge drawback to owning a JK.

JK Haters.

Crash Test videos. Priceless.

(previously owned at least one of each CJ, YJ, TJ, now a JK)

Having owned 4 Wranglers (3 TJs, 1 JK) I will tell you that the drawbacks to the JK in my mind was the cheapness of the overall vehicle...They have addressed my biggest concern (engine) and the new Pentastar is really nice...it’s just that the overall cheapness of the body panels is rough...I mean the hood caves in while you are washing it the rest of the body dents if you look at it for too long, the stock bumpers don’t hold up to anyone standing on them and every time someone jumped in and out of it when the tops off (through the roll bar etc) something chintzy would break off ...but... it does excel as a DD when compared to a TJ..I now own an LJ but, only because I took a short break from Jeeps and when I decided to come back I wanted something a little more old school....with all the negatives said I would not hesitate to buy a JK again you just have to take the good with the bad, just be aware that it feels like they have cut corners in some aspects of the JK. Personally I think it makes sense that they would cut corners, it was originally designed when Chrysler was in financial distress and I think they figured that they would squeeze every ounce of profit out of one of their cash cows.. The model has been improving so I think they are slowly addressing some of these issues but if you live with one for awhile you will know exactly what I am talking about.
