To me anyway So I decided to go to full widths and I managed to find a pretty decent deal. I wound up with a lot of extra stuff for them too. They are from a late 70's F150 so a 9" rear and hp44 front. Already had some good parts too and few TJ brackets already in place.
Big bearing 9" 31 spline shafts:
-Strange Industries nodular iron center section
-truss w/ triangulated 4 link brackets
-shaved about 3" and plated on the bottom
high pinion 44:
-super heavy duty truss
-pure beef diff cover (not sure of brand really but its like 1/4" thick)
-Hi steer arms and HD steering
Also got a spare front shaft, spare knuckles, spare rotors/hubs, 2 spare 9" carriers and gears, spare 9" center section...lots of stuff
Still need to weld a few brackets on here and there, do brakes, set up gears, steering. I got a bit of work to get them completley ready to go in but there is some good stuff and it shouldnt be long before it'll be done.
Also got a set of 36" tsl sx's on double beadlock rims. Got about 95% tread and rims are black, everything is in great shape and got a killer deal on those too.
The rear axle's got brackets on the truss for triangulated uppers and my FT long arms have the wishbone style 3 link so its not gonna bolt up. So Im gonna keep my lowers and buy some new uppers since that truss is welded on and I dont wanna rip it all apart. So if anyones interested, I have a FT 3 link rear bolt on set up. I'll have pics of all of this up tomorrow as Im picking up my tires tomorrow afternoon.
So I didnt get pics up as soon as I wanted because I was working on it tonight but they are here now. Took a few measurments too. Looks like the lowest part of my front diff will be 11.5" and the very lowest spot on the axle tube is going to be 16". I havent measured the rear axles yet though.
-New upper control arms (since new truss doesnt work with my upper 3-link)
Probably make these myself but might have a shop do it
auto parts store
-disc brake stuff
auto parts store
Theres some work to be done but its not as bad as it seems actually. If you got any ideas or places to get this stuff cheaper please let me know! Pics:
Shes gonna be a little wide but very stable I dont think it will look as wide once its under the Jeep though.
You can see how much was shaved from this thing!
This a rough look at the ride height.
Plenty of spare parts!
Got brand new 4.88's for both axles. The 9" ring gear has got to weigh at least 15-20 lbs!
What, you guys dont like my pictures? Come on, I need some input here! lol. Hi steer arms and front brackets will be ordered monday along with drag link probably. Brakes are gonna be bought today if I get the time after setting up my gears. Also, found a set of rear upper long arms from Rustys for $270 for the set. Im really thinking about getting them because it will save a lot of time over building the arms myself. And thats a pretty decent price.
Just ordered these and got a killer deal thanks to the sale thats goin on! XJ - TJ Jeep combo bracket upgrade kit
Also picked up new rotors, calipers, hoses, and pads for rear disc conversion. Pics of that soon.
I finally took my TJ wheelin again since it has had my 44/9" swap. Did flawlessly on everything. And I means everything. I aired my tsl's down to about 4 psi and my tires just stuck like gum, didnt spin at all. But I do have a guy who wants to trade me some late 70's dana 60's and 37" mtrs on hummer beadlocks for my current set up. Only thing is, they arent locked and my current axles have detroits front and back. What do yuo guys think I should do? They are currently in his XJ, so Id have to do some fabricating (again...*sad) but this time I got the full machine shop at my college to sue anyway so it shouldnt be half bad. Would you trade? Should I ask for some cash too and use it for lockers?
*Also, sorry but I didnt get any pics of it on the trail. Goin to the same place next weekend and I will get some pics for sure. I can snap a few of it tomorrow jsut so you guys can see how she turned out. Oh yea, almost forgot, they had an rti ramp too. First time I ever went up one and I maxed it out! Didnt lift a tire either, and it looked neat
