shift knob "decal"

Bought the shift pattern "decal" today and can.t figure how this thing fits in the knob..it is larger than the knob opening..I'm sure its the right one for my 2001 sport. of course, I broke the oem trying to get it off.

thanks

They are a pain, however with a small screwdriver and a little patience its not too hard. I replaced mine with a Hurst T handle when I installed the short throw shifter.

Why do you need something like this. Once i know where reverse is I never look at it again.

How do you like your short throw shifter? Thinking about one since regearing to 4.56's. Have to shift a bit more and a shorter throw would be nice. It's my DD plus it seems it would come in handy off road as well?

It just pushes in. Go a bit sideways and roll the edges of the rubber shift knob around it.

Personally I think its one of the best things I have done to my TJ, did it in unison with installing a new clutch/pressure plate and related hardware. Used the Centerforce Stage 1, not because its a performance vehicle but becuase I am from the Ford SVT World and always use either Ram or Centerforce, plus I get an extremely attractive price reduction through my LLC.
Word of caution, throw away the stock rubber tower gasket if its in the least bit worn stages and use RTV or a combination of RTV and gasket material on the shifter/tower mating surface.

Use a heat gun to gently heat it up, makes the plastic ( or whatever the hell it is ) much more plyable and easy to fit the bigger top part in.

Your right for US, but then someone might be needed to drive our Jeeps because..... (any reason) and not know where reverse is, that's about all I would be concerned with.
