shifter boot "ring"?

Hello all and Happy New Year !!

I recently purchased a 1997 TJ and really enjoy it. I have two questions that I I know someone on the forum can answer:

Is there a "ring"of some sort that surrounds the shifter boot on a 5 speed. The rubber boot is intact, but wants to move about and leave a gap between the boot and floor board. I have tried to find a local TJ with a standard transmission in the area with no success as yet. If someone could take a photo or simply describe any retainer or ring, it would be greatly appreciated.

The next issue ( I just noticed this due, I think, to colder weather starting is a noise like an exhaust leak, but no exhaust smell in the cabin. I don't know if it could be a leaky exhaust manifold or muffler connection. Once the engine warms the noise is non-existent. I plan to get it on a lift as soon as possible, but would like others' opinion. Info greatly appreciated for both questions.

for the "ring" it is a plastic part dealer only from what i found, the boot covers the ring and the ring snaps into the console.

It's called the shifter bezel and it's part # 53000056AB
Get it from any Jeep dealer. I paid $15 for the one I bought recently.

Fit the rubber boot over the lip on it and then snap it into the console so the wedge-shaped clips engage. The thicker part of the bezel goes in the front.

Thanks to all who replied to my request for information about the shift bezel. I will pick one up tomorrow at the dealer's.

I had a mechanic look at the exhaust leak today, and he found that it is indeed the exhaust manifold that is leaking -no doubt cracked, although not confirmed. It looks like a challenge to get the manifold off. The mechanic seems to think that this is a common problem for a Jeep.

Thanks again for the replies.

Re the manifold. May not be broken. Check to be sure all of the manifold bolts are in truly there - not loose or missing. They can "remove" themselves. Also, they can break off in the head. A PIA, but not a big deal, requires removing the broken stud (drill & tap) or re-drilling/tapping without removing the broken remnant and installing new manifold studs/nuts. May not be necessary to remove the manifold at all.
