Shifter cable broke

Yesterday, my automatic shifter cable broke at the end when I pulled it out of park. I noticed that the normal "detente" in the shift to drive was gone! It wouldn't go into any gear, but slid back and forth freely. I had to get towed in and replaced the shifter cable because it was broken at the very end. This was $285 gone, because of the towing fee ($125).

Is this post just to complain about how much money you needed to spend or something else.

Just saying that the towing fee ate up nearly half the bill. I would probably not have had this low of a bill if it had been another vehicle, like a compact that has to be taken apart JUST to get to it. THIS is a keeper for this reason.

The last time I had done anything to it was the front axle inner seals (covered by warranty), and before that was the vacuum line controlling cruise control and the AC director. That's all so far. Total bill over the last year is only $400.

I was sad for my Jeep, as it couldn't go anywhere. It took about 3 hours because of the wait for the cable from the store. While I had the Jeep up on the rack, I looked underneath (last time was buying it, but I was on the ground), and things seem to look good for near 30,000 mi.
