Mine just screwed off. If its an aftermarket one, you need to unscrew the bottom piece (usually silver) that will expose 3 allen screws you have to undo with an allen wrench then pull or screw off

I have an 01' and I popped the center (with the shift pattern) out with a small screwdriver, removed the nut (15mm?), and unscrewed the knob.

Exactly as above. The large nut underneath the shift pattern cap is a locknut that prevents the knob from unscrewing from the gear shift lever. Once that locknut has been loosened, the knob is then simply unscrewed.

use a smaller blade between the plastic. it'll come off if I remember right you have to go away from the center then back in over a lip to get under the cap.I think trip had a post about this somewhere I'll try to find it...

sorry no such luck with pictures. just do as everyone said above and it should work. BTW I think it has a little factory "glue" keeping it on but I could be wrong...

i used a strap wrench to get mine off, if the center cap is glued on you can try using a blow drier.

Be patient!! I used a little screw diver, the one in my Swiss army key holder.
I scratched all the shift knob, and the worst thing i opened just for curiosity .
Now I want to get a new one.
