Ok lets say this is the order of events.

1. Stop at a red light thats pretty long with a lot of traffic.
2. Put in Neutral
3. Take foot off clutch, leave right foot on brake
4. It becomes hard to put the gear back in 1st when I have to go again, like not as smooth as it should be.

Another order of events.

1. Having to go into reverse
2. Feels like theres a wall and i cant shift it into reverse
3. i shift into 1st or 2nd
4. Now I shift into reverse and it goes in just fine.

(This just happens sometimes)

This happens to me too, so I'm interested in some replies. Recently (the last drive or two) Ive also tried to go from 1 to 2 and it feels as if im grinding gears, it wont shift, or im actually going from 1-4 (which I guess is possible, but I think unlikely).

With reverse, I usually go from N to a few other gears (maybe 3-4 a few times) then go into R. seems to match the gears a little better.

Try double clutching or giving the engine a bit of a Rev. Before you push to 1st. Both of those methods work for my dad's 97 and my 00 if this type of thing ever arises. I think the R gear on the AX trans aren't synchro', so everytime I'm putting my dad's into reverse, i Rev it to 1.5 - 2k, just a quick throttle punch to avoid any grind noise and make it smoother.

That's what works for me!

How long has it been since a fluid change?

Whenever I have that problem I shift into third and with the clutch still depressed shift into 1st. It stops the gears from spinning when in neutral and the clutch out. Pretty normal.
