Shop prices.. and local sources for Oils etc.

So, I decided to call the local shops today to see about having a few basic things done, like changing out the trans, tcase and diff fluids (I know, I know.. it is easy to do, but I have zero garage space and I also haven't had the courage to buy decent tools since all mine got stolen)... Any way, I about had a stroke when they all come back with prices like 150 bucks per diff to change the fluid. I mean, really.. is RTV the price of gold now or something? ;-)

Any way, long story short, I was wondering if any of you Chicago folks know a local source for some Redline? I did a search, but only came up with threads on recommending it and where to get it online.

Any help would be appreciated, I want to get new juice in the jeep before it gets angry with me!

Thanks,
Ryan.

Yea thats about the right price foe having it done by the shop. That's why it's sooo much easier & cheaper doing it yourself.

Why Redline..... theres plenty of diff fluids you can use that can be bought off the shelf at AZ or Wally World.

Basically because I belong to the "Do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again" club... Basically, If I know that I haven't put what I consider to be the best item into my vehicle it will sit in the back of my mind gnawing at me until I fix it. And yeah, I know... but it is just how I have always been, and also why my last jeep was bulletproof hehe I may settle for something different this time around if there is nothing local though, as I really want to get this done before I put too many more miles on it.

do you have a freind with a garage and a few tools? Its not that bad of a job.. hard part is getting the old rtv off the diff... they also make a pump to pump the fluid in. Perhaps the worst part is the smell of the gear oil itself....

Well, luckily I have a new friend with a garage now! (thanks to the forums hehe). And yeah, I have no problems doing the stuff myself, I actually enjoy it a lot - at least the stuff that I know how to do... and what I don't know how to do I like to learn ;-)

I'm just so happy to be back in a Jeep, and to have something that is actually able to be worked on without a ton of computers and tiny hands... It's sitting stock now, but that is going to change dramatically... and sooner than later hehehe.
