Question Shopping for an Exhaust.

Not sure where to begin. Tough sounding, performance enhancing, reasonable price, etc., is a good place to start. Possibly installing it myself (we'll see, never done it before). What's good out there? I'm too concerned with flex clearence issues. I wheel but nothing to crazy. - Or what do local shops carry, would that be cheaper, yet still get the sound/perfomance?

Yikes!! That is one option....,I guess. I do have a '99 Honda I use for work I think that'd be better suited for such a ridiculuos option. THose things should be outlawed!!! for real. Seriously though I use to run Dynomax on my old RAM it was a decent all around exhaust.

I just read your list. What color is the '99? For sale? That would save me a lot of work Flowmaster, 40 though. Alright!

i have the flowmaster also. it sounds great and is reasonably priced IMO...i had it welded in for $110 i think. not too bad. but i wouldn't expect any kind of performance gain with any muffler. its an original 40 and was what the muffler shop had in stock.

Hilarious! I just watched it again! It does sound real good. Not like any Jeep I ever heard. IThat thing sounds powerful. What else is contributing to that power? Anything?

cat back?

What type of catback would give you that same sound? I want to get the performance gains as well. Looking at a stainless steel one

well thats a flowmaster so a flowmaster would give you the same sound lol.

i don't think you are gonna notice any type of performance gain with a catback. definitely not enough to be worth the price anyway.

That vid in post #8 sounds great. So that's the basic FM 40 series and stock pipe? If that's the case I think that'll be my next mod. Sounds really good.

I have 50 delta, it sounds great however i want to get a hooker max flow muffler. It flows just like a straight pipe while Flow master flows half it.

yeah its the original 40. its called "the original flows". thats what the box said lol. so i'm not sure exactly which one that would be. yeah its the stock pipe

either way i don't think you are gonna notice any difference in performance. if anything you'll notice a loss of low end if you straight pipe it. sure isn't gonna help performance enough to be noticeable.

#8 vid sounds cool; I liked also the fact that he can fit his Jeep in the garage; my house was built in the 60's and I can only just squeeze in with the top down during the summer.

i had a flowmaster 40 on my exploder. that sounded AWESOME!! needless to say it has now exploded. i have a toyota truck (4 banger) that i also put a flowmaster 40 on. it sounds ok at best. it also has a magnaflow high flow catalytic converter and 2.25" pipes. its sounds much better than stock, but NOTHING like what the explorer had with the same muffler and 3" pipes.

i need something for the jeep. no clue what i want to run yet.

its hard to get a 4 banger to sound good. especially a toyota. i rarely hear toyotas (even the 6 cyl's) that sound good. the only toyotas that sound good IMO are the ones with v8's.

here is my 50 delta with a custom short 2.5" tailpipe
It sound a bit raspy because of the camera but in real life its pretty deep.

An exhaust can make an engine sound amazing. For example the lotus elise uses a celica engine.
