Short shift kits......

Anybody have any experience with one? I was just browsing for brand names, where online to buy them, prices, how much shorter the throw actually is......I'm thinking this along with a new gear knob will be my first mod. Something subtle before i do the suspension and wheels/tires combo.

Thanx alot,
Chris

Thanx for the links. I just checked them out. I'll probably go with the B&M but want the Hurst T-Handle. Think it will mate up good?

I rather get the B&M since i've heard the hurst shifter can come apart... You can put any handle you want on it as long as its the same thread..

Yeah I just have to figure out if they both have the same thread pitch. I mean I would assume any knob would fit on the short shifter because wouldn't they make the short shift kit to fit the factory knob?

I have the hurst kit, and I like it a lot, it made a huge difference in the throw, the shifts are crisper, and it changed the position of the shifter to make it much more comfortable. As far as coming apart, if you use red locktight when mounting the stick onto the shifter body, you should have no problems.

Did I mention that it's shiny and when it's matched with a chrome T handle, it looks pretty mean.

You see the only thing stopping me from buying a short shifter now is my plans of lifting it. I wanna lift it first and then get a shifter since i dont have any problems with my current shifter.. I just like the short shifter since its ..well.. shortens the shifts

On seconds thought i should have gotten an automatic lol

Well just think, if you do the shifter now, then you won't have to do it after you lift it! Did I mention that it's shiny?

I get 100 mpg due to the quicker shifts and when I shift into reverse, Ponies and Christmas Cookies shoot out of it.

Alright, ya'all got me thinking about one also. However, how does it work with lockers? Driving on the street with a locker sometimes you need that slight pause for a smooth shift. Anyone using a short shift with an auto locker and how well does it work?

it'll work fine, just shift slower.

I run the B&M on my 01 TJ. Also has a safety incorporated into it to prevent coming down from 5th into reverse. Made a world of difference for me as i was having some shifter binding problems because of lifts. But the short throw is one of the best mods ive made as far as speed shifting in deep mud, to powering out of any situation. Im sure they make one for the 6 speeds. And as for the T handle..i have the chrome T pistol grip from B&M on mine.

You guys have me interested now. I lose a lot of power shifting from 1st to 2nd in the sand and it sounds like the short shifter might be the way to go. Is this a difficult mod to do yourself? Do you know of any good writeups on it? Any special tools required?
