Oh well what can you do right Hopefully it will ship tomorow. If it ships early enough I'll install it in the mourning. If not I'll have to wait till Friday night.

Yes thats the B&M short throw shifter i ordered from ebay. Came in with free shirt, 2 big stickers and 1 small rubber sticker. The blue part is scratched a bit but i could care less about it.

Also you will need a bottle of RTV just to use as a gasket (not supplied).

Pretty much everything you see on top of the shirt is what i got in the package.

How much sorted does it make the shift? I had a short throw in my Cobra, it was great and I could shift faster than an auto, with that shifter, but how would that serve in a Jeep?

I will measure the shift throw length tomorow 3rd to 4th gear and then measure the shift throw length from 3rd to 4th with the short throw shifter kit...

in a jeep i hear it serves great in rocks and mud so...

B&M states that its about 30% in the push & draw. I'd say that's quite an improvement. everyone that I talk to that has one says that they love it and its one of their best mods.

I'm done and satisfied

I measured the throw of stock and measured after i installed the short throw.

stock.. 0 of the ruler being at the dash by the ashtray (to the threads on the shifter)

when in 3rd gear the distance from the dash to the threads on the stock shifter was 4.5" and also measuring up from the console it was 7" high (to the threads)

So when in 3rd gear it was 4.5" and 7" high.
when in neutral it was 7" and 6" high
when in 4th gear it was 9 3/4" 5" high

so thats around 2.5-2.75" throw from gear to neutral and to gear again

Now with the short shifter

in 3rd gear it was around 3.25 and 7" high
in neutral it was around 4.5 7" high
and in 4th gear it was 6" and 6.5" high.

so thats around 1.25-1.5" throw.

Pics and a movie are coming right up.

Install was as easy, instructions were really detailed so read them once or twice before you begin the job and you'll be set to go.. took me about an hr or so and i cleaned up many dusty plates and also wiped my dash too in that time.

See how i ripped out the threads? dont even know how much power i have

console removed

to remove that plate you will also need to losen up ALL the bolts on the tcase shifter thingy since it will be holding the black plate down.

I have 2" Body lift so my tranny is 2" further down so anyways as you can see 4 rusty bolts are holding the stock shifter assembly in place so remove those and it will fall right out. You will see a gasket on the stock shifter that does not get reused.

Stock vs B&M

BTW you have to pop out the plastic thing on the end of the stock and reinstall it on the new shifter.

Continued....

continued..
Looking down into the tranny

Dry fitting the short shifter to make sure everything is correct

The guy said it was RTV so.. on the cover it said it was for trannies and for oils and all that junk so.. anyways here it is applied on. And as you can see i didnt like how the rubber booth fitted on there so i put some "brown stuff" on there too.

Bolts right in.

Black cover back on. I put brown stuff on top of the booth too since from what i can see thats the top of the transmission and if the shifter is not perfectly sealed then this would leave the transmission open so water and moisture and junk can get in.

Next booth on too. As you can see i cleaned it up too.

Console back on

Shift knob back on. All done. I don't have a rubber booth.

So the shifter itself isn't shorter, just the throw?

if the shifter would be lower he´d need to lower the seat to reach it...

Well I don't know a short throw shifter for Jeeps. If the shifter is the same height, but with a shorter throw, I can see many advantages to having it.

I'll extend it soon. The shifter is the same height as stock. My shifter seems shorter because i have 2" body lift and also seat risers that are 1.25" in the rear and .5" in the front so my seat is higher and my tranny is lower.

I just ordered one of these to extend the shifter length 3 more inches.

Where did you buy the shifter, and how much was it? I don't feel like going back to the begining of this thread.

yours is 06 so if you have manual then you cannot get a short throw shifter as of now for your jeep...they don't have one for the 6speeds yet
