Question Should I bother with a fire extinguisher

I was wondering what everyone thought about having a fire extinguisher on board. Does everyone have one and if so do you have the expensive ones from Quadratec or the cheep one’s from Home Depot? Is one really better than the other? I’m thinking about mounting one on the passenger side roll bar behind the seat. I was going to use tie straps or large hose clams. Where do most of you have them mounted or are they something I should even bother with?

Most of the clubs require them, so they must be needed. The ones I've seen are mounted on the roll cage but I'm not sure what makes the Quadratec ones better than Home Depot's that they would cost more.

I don't have one, but it's on the list. I've been gathering tools, hadn't gotten to the fire extinguisher yet.

I don't have one yet, but it's on my Christmas list. IMO, it's always good to have a fire extinguisher around while on the trail, whether you need it for your own jeep or helping others or taking care of other people's carelessness.

I carry two in the Jeep. One under my seat and the other in the back velcro'd (yes, it holds just fine) to the rear rollbar.

Must have is a good descriptive of a fire extinguisher. Its right up there along with beer and a high lift jack. Take it from a career firefighter - Extinguishers are like condoms, rather have it and not need it : then need it and not have it.

hahaha yes I agree. (also a career and Vol. firefighter) had a friends Bronco burn to the ground last year cause he didn't have one.(yea i know it was only a Bronco) Look for an "ABC" extinguisher, home depot will have some slightly larger ones. Also ask your local fire dept where they get theirs. Many times there is a local place that most don't know about, that sells them. Yeah they will be a lil more expensive but you can get them recharged if you do use it. Will save you in the long run. just my .02 cents.

I have a First Alert Auto in my Jeep. Right now it is in the trunk, but when I finally get to take the top off, I'll attach it properly to the roll bar.

i use black duct tape over electrical tape. SUPER easy to tear apart with your fingers in an emergency. i put the electrical tape under the duct tape so u dont get residue on the roll bar pad. if that matters to you. i have a large extingusher standing up on my passenger side all the on the rear of my roll bar in my trunk.

Never be without a knife. It should be part of the safety gear kept in you jeep at all times.

Whatever works for the individual jeep owner is good.
I always have a folding knife in my pocket. And, I'm not usually in or around my jeep without my pants. Besides, knives are handy for other things besides cutting loose your fire extinguisher.

alot of the stores I mentioned earlier sell mounts that work great(no zip ties or need for a knife) the only downfall is trying to find a place to mount them. I would suggest the spot between the drivers door and the front seat on the floor. it keeps it right next to you and easy to get to.

I'm a nurse - I don't panic
I'm a sensible woman (like Amy) - I carry a moderate sized pocket knife taped to the inside of my Jeep's door.....and it's sharp

Also.....the bracket that holds the extinguisher is zip tied to the roll bar, the bracket has clamps for the extinguisher itself

If all else fails....Frank puts out the fire.....
