Should I buy?

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/car/420805592.html

The miles makes me nervous. Will the high miles kill the re-sale value? If its clean and well taken care of, whats it worth?

I need a jeep that is reliable, thats my #1 factor in buying. Give me your thoughts!

If it was taken care of then 140k is fine, go have a look at it. Drive it around, get under it and fiddle with the inner workings. If your really interested in it and are worried for couple hundred bucks Carfax can come out and do a in depth inspection on it.

Also run the VIN, looks good tho just from the picture.

kbb in my zip list as follows: For private party:
Condition Value

Excellent
$6,375

Good
$5,805

Fair
$5,055

As for the miles, a well maintained 4.0L should go over 200k, The clutch will need replaced before then most likey. Thus, have it checked over.

I can do minor work myself. (plus with any questions I know a great forum for adivce THe problem is anything costing more than a couple hundred dollars is going to be a huge hit for me....

Wil paying more now for one with 100,000 miles keep me from larger expenses in the short run? (3-4 years)

No cause the first time you wheel it and inadvertantly break something do to a trail and not street driving its going to cost you several hundred bucks.

My 97 i bought this year for $3700 ive already put 600 in just maintence alone.

Just me i could be wrong, your jeep may never see dirt, but the temptation is there.

i think that for that mileage, it may be slightly over priced unless you really want the mods that his has on it already. I have a 97 with 4.0 and automatic. I paid $5k when it only had 80k miles on it. But again, it wasnt a Sahara and didnt have a front and rear bumper with a lift and 31's.

I would see if it has the Dana 44 option under it.. If it has those then it may well be worth that price.

But at any price, 140k miles is no where near the life span of a 4.0. It may need alittle more TLC but it aint gonna die for at least another 60k miles as long as it was serviced on a regular basis.

***EDIT**
after loking at the ad again I retract my statement. It has both tops along with a lot of mods. that price is fair. But again.. mileage is not an issue.

Before you sign ad drive, take it to a "qualified" mechanic to get a sanity check.

Good luck
