Should I buy this Wrangler?

Soooo I have been thinking about getting rid of my 4 cyl and getting a sport. I found this guy who buys alot of jeeps, fixes them up and then sells them. He has a 2001 sport with 111,000 miles. He has done some b=work and painted the enrire jeep (which he does with every jeep he gets) Has brand new 33's with a 2/5 inch b lift. He is asking 9k for it. The body lift is what is making me nervous. I dont think it should be that high but if I can get a decent jeep and then put my OME lift on it and make the b lift smaller down the road.

What do you guys think?

2.5" is a lot for a body lift... Does he have the original pucks for the tub?

Why go to all the trouble of a new paint job and then go cheap on the lift. I would keep looking.

Make sure it has a clean title. Lots of those have rebuilt or salvage titles which is fine, if you know what you're getting when you do it. But some states have issues with them, and your resale will be greatly diminished... You should expect to pay considerably less for anything that doesn't have a clean title...

NADA has a clean retail listed at $9.8k, but make sure that it is a clean title cheap. If so, I'd offer $7.5k and go from there. Pay cash if possible and you should be good. If it doesn't have a clean title, start at $6k. Be sure you know the laws in your state for rebuild and salvage. Make sure it checks out. If Carfax shows accident history, make sure the frame is straight. Everything else is repairable, but a bent frame can ruin your day.

Me personally, the body lift wouldn't be my biggest concern. It's $100 for a 1-inch or finding stocks, and you probably could EASILY swap with someone whose looking for a 2.5 body lift. The reason he threw it on was because it's then possible to sell it as "lifted" to fools. You just don't happen to be one of them.

I think there are better jeeps out there for 9k. I found my 97 tj 4.0 6 cyl with 64k miles hardtop 4 soft tops in close to mint condition with a 3.5 inch lift and brand new tires. I walked up to the guy with 7 grand in cash and he took it. Not that your going to automatically find that deal, but it sounds like for the money your a ways off from what you could get.

I think you could do better. I know we can rack up a ton of miles on our Jeeps but thats kinda high for an 01.

X2 on checking the title.

I think you are paying too much for fluff...specifically the new paint, while buying questionable stuff like the lift and miles for top dollar!
I would look elsewhere.
Be patient with your search and have fun looking.

I mean, that's not terrible. It's an average of 11k miles a year which is less then average. I would agree though I think the price is too much.

I paid $6k for my 1999 with 115k miles on it. Remember, things like lifts and paint jobs shouldn't cost extra because very rarely do mods factor into the price positively.

I would keep looking. I don't like to buy something that has allready been "romanced" and you don't know what the condition was like prior to the work. I would rather see it for what it is first. This can give an indication on how it was or was not cared for by previous owners.

I'll throw one more example for reference... I got my '97 4.0 that was almost stock, in great shape mechanically, with faded paint but no rust out of Indiana with 104000 miles on a clean title and carfax for $3900. Good luck! I'm helping a buddy search for one (we've been on the hunt for a few months now).... The search can be fun, you never know what the next great deal is going to be. Let us know what you are looking at and what you decide on.
