should i get some super swampers?

have a shot at a almost new set for cheap. Im going to get crager soft 8's soon. I currently have bfg at's and like them since my jeep is my daily but id like some mt's since mud is all we got in iowa.

Do swampers suck in the snow?? This is what ive heard and being from iowa i need something decent in snow/icy roads.

if you're looking for a good dd tire and a snow and ice tire DO NOT GET SWAMPERS!!! Swampers are made for serious offroading...they suck on pavement...they wear fast, dont balance well, are noisey as hell, and suck on light snow and ice.

Now if you're rig was a 95% offroad rig that'd be a different story...its hard to beat swampers offroad, but on road, especially ice, they suck, they just weren't made for pavement.

You'd be much better off finding some sipped mt's if you're looking for a good balance.

SS just put out a new all terrian tire that looks like the bogger supposed to be pretty good and sell for a good price too... I think the name was the M-16 I like the look.

No SS for dd. If they make a set that gets 40,000-50,000 miles wear that would be another story but for DD i rather drive with my ATs.

SS are way too rough of a ride on the road. You would get tired of the noise and the bouncing everyday

i'd run em.

it depends on which ones you get though. there are many different ones. many people run the trxus on a DD but i doubt that is what your talkin bout

True it really deppends on the kind of swampers you want to get. I was assuming you were talking about the aggressive swampers such as the tsl's, ltb's or boggers, all 3 would be a no go for a comfortable dd and snow/ice.

I run the SS - TSL radials (not bias) on my DD and I love them. My commute is very small (less than 10 miles/day) so I would reconsider if it was longer.

PRO's - off road performance is simply outstanding. Mud, snow or rock crawling, they are incredible. The also add to the appearance.

CON's - noise and wear. Yeah, they are a bit noisy but it alerts other drivers and the deer. Make sure your alignment is good or you'll chew them up for sure.

i found some s-10 steelies for like 75 obo. Swampers with 3k on them are $200. Should i buy those and mount the swampers to them for off road only??? The backspacing might be weird though. I know the tires are 10.5's and the s-10 wheels should be a 15x7 so that will work right??

If the wheels came off of a S10 they will not bolt up to your TJ.. S10 bolt pattern is 5 on 4.75 and jeeps are 5 on 4.5. So the wheels would be a NO GO.

just thought i'd let you know before you bought them.

ive got tsl sx tires on my daily driver. they get flat spots when sitting for a few hours. They make some noise but no where near as much noise as the bias baja claws I had before. I grooved my tires so not sure if that increases or diminishes the road noise and tire wear on the street.

I've only had them for about a month but so far I like them alot. They balanced great on my crappy steal wheels using hammer on weights on the inside of the rim and 14 oz of ceramic beads in each tire. Good for up to 70 mph but I don't like to drive that fast and certainly not above that anyways.

They are strong sidewalls for the trails on weekends which is why I bought them. Its a daily driver but I like to use my imagination and pretend its a trail only rig. lol. so I don't mind a few negatives like having to buying new tires every 6 months. I'm wanting to gett a second rig soon and make this a trail only rig.

oh man. i coulda sworn the s-10's had 5x4.5. And thanks for the heads up. Because a lot of people list them as 4.5 when they arent and i wasnt completely sure.
