Should I sell the hardtop?

Since I'm in college and low on cash sometimes... Should I sell my hardtop? I know it's great for colder weather but I've heard the soft top will keep the heat in too... I'm just in the need for some cash and was thinking about the hardtop...

Any thoughts?

I say go for it! I have a hardtop and it just sits in my garage. Soft top is fine in the winter. I live in Houston Texas though, doesn't get colder than 45 here.

It gets in the low 20's here I guess. I mean I have gloves and a hat to keep me warm and a carhartt. Who needs doors and a top? Hahah

My soft top did just fine, we had zero temps for a few days straight.
It doesn't really 'keep the heat in' per se, but the heater puts out super hot air, so it wasn't a problem.
I was driving around with only a light jacket and no gloves, and was very comfortable (until I got out!)

Ok sweet. I just have to talk to my parents about it... It's my jeep but my dad used to own a cj7 Laredo and had a soft top and he always says why the hell would you do that. I said so I can move out haha

I found softtop is actually warmer than hardtop because the material lets warmth in quicker.

Its all personal preference if you need cash or don't use it sell it but if you use it why sell it. I have both and it doesn't seem much different as far as temperature but with a hard top the noise is what really makes the difference. Every one on here will give you there two cents and this is just mine but the decision is ultimately yours or you Dads I guess lol.
I thought about selling my soft top but I know some day I will want one and I will pay more then I sold it for. Good luck.

You're right who needs doors and a top. Sell it and skip the soft top, at most get a safari top. Just make sure your scraper is sharp. You'll be cleaning both sides of the windshield.

I live in NC and have never had a hardtop on either Jeep I owned. Been through winters and did just fine. The heaters are amazing. You just have to warm them up good since you can't scrape the soft windows without scratching them.

My soft top on my YJ did great in the winter. It gets much colder than 20 in Northeast ohio, and I was never cold

I got a hard top because I really dislike YJ soft tops. I found that I never took it down in the summer because it was cumbersome. Also, I live in Cleveland....so soft tops don't work for safety reasons.

It's been 6 years with a soft top only here in NW NJ and it's fine. I did get heated seat covers for the wife & I since I drive her to work in the AM, They are fantastic.

The only reason that I have not sold my hardtop is that my soft top looks like it might be in the first stages of decline and I may have to use it as a bargaining chip one day for a new soft top. If not for that I would have already sold it...hell it was free anyway

Ok. So the soft top should hold some heat though right?

The heaters in the CJ's dont come close to the heaters in the YJ's and newer. I live in Cincinnati OH where it gets pretty damn cold and my soft top did great! I just prefer the look of the hardtop.

Hardtops are going for a high prices these days ive noticed. I have never seen a TJ hard top go for less than $750 in good shape. The cheapest TJ hard top i saw was about $300 and it had no glass and was very rough. Seen YJ tops going for around $500 though. If you need some cash and just want a soft top, go for it.

There are plenty of soft topped jeeps driving around up here and we normally have a couple weeks around -20 in Jan/feb. So the material may not be any better or worse but plenty of people seem happy with the heater and blowers strength. Timing wise I imagine now is a better time to sell it, while people are gift shopping for their jeepers and before spring buds make everyone feel like going topless.

we've had mid 20s F here in lower NY for a few days recently, and the soft top seems fine. I am new to the Jeep scene (what, 3 weeks?), but as others have said, the heater CRANKS once the engine coolant starts to warm up, and that's one the first blower setting.

I'd say sell it man!!!!!!!!!!!

Only advantage of a hardtop is less noise. The heater, and AC for that matter, provide plenty of air to stay comfortable with a soft top. Do you have a soft top on the jeep now? Wouldn't be any point of selling the hardtop OFF your jeep only to have to buy a softy. Otherwise, if it's just sitting around, sell it

If you've a soft top, go for it. They hold enough heat. If you have to buy one like I did...ehh..I sold my hard top for 950, pd 425 for bowless. I just really liked the look, and had some left over!
