Side Mirror Boot Replacement/Swap ?

The rubber boot on my 98 Wrangler Sport's driver side mirror is gone and ive noticed that over the winter it is starting to corrode. I would like to replace that boot.....so my question is

Am I able to detach the mirror housing from the arm? (the ball and socket section) and if so how? removing the two screws to either side? I loosened them and it didnt seem to loosen the connection. ANy advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance. I hope it just something simple that i am missing.

The mirror unscrews from the arm. If corroded, it may not be easy but they do unscrew. If you look closely, you'll notice "flats" for a wrench on the post that is screwed into the arm. There's loctite in there as well.

I just put 2 new BestTop mirrors on this week. I took my old mirrors completely apart and cleaned/repainted for spare parts. Go to a junkyard and buy a smashed mirror. Salvage the boot.

Son of a gun. I wish I had known that before I painted mine. It wasn't easy to mask off the boot.

Me too... I had stripped and repainted mine a few times before I stopped and actually looked at how they went together.

THANK YOU! I am a visual person and this picture helped out immensely. As i mentioned before i had noticed some corrosion and that thing was LOCKED UP. So naturally i thought maybe i was an idiot and it didnt come apart there after i was applying alot of force there. After seeing the pic i took off my passenger side (that had a boot) and it came right off.

thanks again for your help.
