Question silly question but- how do I open soft top ?

So
my 1st Jeep with a soft top.. 97 TJ factory soft top..
I see 2 handles by front window but where do I go from there...?
Does it just fold back and away or do I have to remove it to open it..

thanks
P. SCOTT

First remove side windows. Then over the top of the doors there are a couple of channels the top is secured to via some heavy plastic tabs. You will need to pull those tabs out of the channel over the doors. Finally, unlatch the two latches over the windshield and fold back. Pretty simple process once you have done it once.

Here is a Bestop video that shows you how to do it. Hard to stay focused on the Jeep though.

How quickly can you put up and down your Wrangler TJ soft top? - YouTube

Tip a friend of mine on here carries 2 bath towels and lays the windows in them and rolls them up to prevent scratching. They tuck in neatly behind the backseat under the top.

I store my windows on pant hangers with the clips. Nice and out of the way.

I drive mine like that sometimes but I always feel like those rear corner pieces are gonna blow out or get damaged somehow, maybe it's just me worrying about nothing.

Nope not alone, It keeps my noggin' from getting burnt to a crisp on the way to the beach, with the back seat 'in', my rear corner pieces don't flap in the breeze.

Once you do it a few times, you can do it by yourself in a few minutes, remember, it's always easier to put it up when the sun is still up, and it's warmer out side. you'll be amazed how much harder it is to do when the sun is down and it has cooled just a few degrees.

If I am going to drive on the hiway with my top up, and the windows out, I always wrap a bungee cord around the corner section to the sport bar.
