Silver under carpet?

So I got about 2" of water inside my Jeep and totally soaked my carpet. I drained it and dried it out, but up front there is a silver piece attached to the carpet. It looks like tin foil and is either some deadening material or some type of heat shield. It will not dry out behind it. Do I just rip it out and not worry about it?

My TJ floor is just body paint/clear coat so I bet this is some sort of heat shield of noise deadener. I'd say you'd be fine and probably better off to rip it out if it's keeping water or else you'll rust.

It is definitely something along the lines of dynamat. Your TJ will be just fine without it. A lot of people here keep the carpet out and line the entire interior with truck bed-liner.

I would keep it there. It is a heat shield and I've heard the cab can get pretty hot without it.

I pressure washed my carpet and left it in the open upside down (silver side up). All the water seeped through the carpet and it was dry at the end of the day.

So it is a heat shield and it was trapping water between it and the carpet so I ripped it out. I would rather have heat than mold as it was starting to stink.

Whenever you get your carpet wet you must pull it up/or out and let it completely dry or it will stink and never stop.

I ran without my carpet recently on a 400 mile trip (one way)...there is a slightly higher amount of road noise (not a lot) and I honestly noticed no difference in heat inside. There are stickers on the center hump that warn you not to remove the carpet due to high temps, but that problem is easy to solve...don't drive or have passengers ride barefoot.

I saw that warning sticker when I pulled up the carpet too. The silver stuff is on the drivers side too, but you would need to have at least 4" of water in there to get it wet as it is quite a bit higher.
