Smitty XRC or SRC front?

Hey Jeepers, I am currently debating between the SRc and XRc front Bumpers for my 97 tj. Price wise it comes out about even. XRC has winch plate already. SRC does not. Currently have an XRC on hold for me for 275. Winch I am looking into is 275. SRC is 220 new. winch plate for 75 winch for 275. Price wise it is about the same. But as far as looks I am iffy on how far the SRC sticks out. Not sure how I feel about that. I like the coverage the XRC offers. As far as debris and such not going upward into engine area if contacted in front.

Would love to hear opinions and thoughts. If you have either one of these on your TJ post pics would love to see. Thanks!

I have a 97 myself with the src front and back. I liked the looks better than the xrc myself but teach his own. As for protection mtg srcbhas been bulletproof. Taken several bumps and hits including being punched in the nose in the movie theater parking lot. I came away without a scratch and his brush guard had a nice bend in it. Also in my opinion a separate winch plate is a plus. If you manage to bend or damage it you can replace just the plate rather than the whole bumper. As for front end protection the src has a full channel over the frame horns with a 2" tube in front ofthat and all critical joints are gusseted. 2 d-ring attachment points hang slightly below the channel. I have used the bumpers as jacking points with my hi-lift and even picked the front end up with a forklift (d-ring poi t-shirts resting on the forks.) In my oopinion it is strong well built and the way to go.

I should be worried about bending? If I get an 8k or 9k lb to pull myself out if needed?

Why limit yourself to the Chinese made Smittybilt brand? There are plenty of American made bumpers that are very cost competitive, you just have to look a bit harder since the big catalogs push the cheap stuff so hard.

dont want a stubby really. Have extended flares and blackrocks with 3/4 spacing. want as far out as i can get.

As far as getting american. what are some others at decent prices. I am getting an xrc for 250 barely used. Brand new and src is 220 shipped. I am keeping myself on a budget.

I have a smitty classic front and back.
The src's are known to not take a hit very well, the tubes bend and fold. There's a drastic pic online somewhere but almost every src I've seen in person has a bent tube around the front corner. I would not recommend the rear tire carrier's as mine is a hunk of crap. I do like my front though, it fits well and hits stuff with no problems or paint chipping.

OP Do you want that look or does it not matter? Because eBay has a few guys who make custom ones that are farley cheap and made well. Like dirtworx and Bumperbarn they are made in USA

That's too bad you feel that way when people suggest buying American instead of from China.

Rather than get into why buying American isn't always best (it's complicated), I'll say I love my spyder xrc. Solidly made, heavy duty rough powdercoat finish, affordable. But... If I had to do over, I'd buy a simple box steel one from a guy I found here in town who makes them and sells them for $199.

I wouldn't mind buying American made if I could find one for a price in my range. As far as looks I have the Smitty tubes now the double with the loops. and I like the look. I saw pics form people who have both style and like them. I am trying not to spend 700 bucks for just a bumper. Would like to spend 600 for winch, bumper and plate if needed.

Well I suggest you take a look at bumperbarn on eBay and or dirtworx.

Dirtworx
Category 1, Category 2 items in TheDirtworx store on eBay!
Bumperbarn
items in Ryans Fabrication store on eBay!

Well in other peoples defense, a lot of people do not know that Smittybilt is made in China...I didn't when I bought mine and even had Compton, CA on the boxes. As for the products, they work for now no issues...

Here's one of the pics of Smittybilt's SRC after a rather minor collision.

I don't want to get into the china vs us thing, but I do have to agree with these guys, that if you check craigslist there are several guys starting fabrication business that will weld you up any type of bumper you want at a very reasonable price.

Yep, there are a number of low-cost American manufacturers like Dirtworx and AtoZ who are totally cost competitive and produce quality that is superior to what Smittybilt imports.

Jerry, I deal with the Buy America Act everyday at work. We sell American made product as well as Imports products for all building products. My point to this is. If you don't go to the shop that is making the product and see for yourself it could be an import. If you don't ask for a steel cert it could be American made with steel from China from another country. This is all brought in under the WTO / Buy American Act. Here is a link for you to view for yourselves. You would be surprised as to what is said it is American made and is really made in another country. Don't get me wrong I try to buy American when I can but some times I don't That's my right to make the chose. The BUY AMERICAN ACT link is: https://www.acquisition.gov/far/html...html#wp1169451 Here is the link to the WTO countries: WTO | Understanding the WTO -* members

I will have to look into Fab shops when i get home. i do not really know any in my area. I like the looks of the src with the winch mount for the JK's. why did they have to wait to come up with that design.

I have Garvin bumpers, priced well and take a hell of a beating. I have slammed mine into rocks and all it takes to bring them back is a bit of sandpaper and spray paint.
