As my son gets older and money gets a little better, I'm trying to ease back into rock crawling on a smaller scale. I had a smittybilt SRC front bumper on the jeep and it's been a great little bumper, but for rocks it's not the best. After trying to trade or sell it I decided to just cut it up. I started by removing the outer tubes last night. Got one side ground down and still have to do the other. Not only does this improve the approach angle, but it also gets rid of the biggest fears with the bumper and thats the tubes crushing the fenders if hit. It will also look better since I'm planning on running MCE's flat fenders. When I get time I will be cutting the center hoop and gusset off, removing some of the angle, and welding it back on. This will tilt it up some and shorten it since it sticks out so dang far. After looking at the pics I will also be removing the outer light tabs and just running some brighter lights on the center hoop after I cut and weld the tabs back. This is where I started, and where I am now. Lack of time sucks!
Looks good...That's basically what I'm planning on doing. I have the same bumper, but I'm thinking I'm gonna change those big side tubes our for some small hoops just big enough to go around my 4" offroad lights mounted there on the sides and possibly extend the main hoop up into a stinger (using inserts for added strength of course). Kind of a cross between the Overkill Engineering Grumpy bumper for the TJ, Grumpy Extreme for the JK and the Smittybilt SRC bumper.
