Smittybilt xrc8 winch

Does anyone know if the xrc8 winch is a nice winch to get? Its real cheap so that was what i was goin for, instead of paying like 1000 for a nice one. And if so anyone recomend any winch plates?

i'm gonna go with it in a couple weeks. head to jpmagazine, search "cheap winches" they have an article about the best bang for your buck lower priced winches and the xrc8 is a good choice.

i was looking at one but other priorities came first. As for a winch plate. I was told by "" that it will fit a warn plate. i'm running a jk. I would give them a call and ask. they seem to give me straight answers for what i've done so far.

I got my XRC8 winch from a guy here in the Bay Area. Check out Jeep Wrangler CJ7 New and Used Parts Store for a great price on the winch and winch plate. I have used the winch a few times, and it has performed flawlessly. Just remember, it's not a Warn.....but then it doesn't cost $1,000 either.

I like it but other than pulling stuff to exercise it, haven't had to recover with it yet. Doesn't have a fast line speed but so far seems pretty durable. I'm fine with mine.

I have an XRC 8 that has worked well so far. Been using it to haul down trees for the winter wood. I mounted it on a mount plate from It's pretty much a Warn plate for half the price ($75.00). As for noise and line speed, I'm not really interested as long as it does the job.

Ive had one for about 7 months and the one time I used it it worked fine. If I used one all the time I would have bought a Warn, but for occasional use the XR8 is fine. One nitpick though...the cheap bracket that holds the control box on broke in about 2 weeks of ON road driving! Made my own and it's all good now.

Plenty of winch for my Jeep, slid off in some ruts the other day and the winch never bogged down dragging me across the mud hole!

mounted on a Warn mount
