So when I drive and the car vibrates my tailgate rattles just a bit... I cannot pin point the noise anyone has a clue what this is? ( the noise is driving me nuts)

Rattles and Jeeps go together. Just turn up the radio. Or take the top off and put on some real aggressive mud terrain tires to drown out the rattle.

Seriously though, first thing I would do is check to make sure you are closing your tail gate all the way. Sometimes if you don't slam it hard enough the rubber strip on the rear window bar prevents the door from completely shutting, causing an annoying rattle. You could have a loose body bolt, or just about any other bolt. Or maybe the rattle is in your head. :D

That happens to me all the time.

Haha I kno I kno we can't have it all lol @gus so I took the spare out and found that I was missing a bolt on the bracket that bolts to the tailgate so I bought one and placed it. Then I though that was it but no it still rattles haha so I kinda now what might be.. ( I close the tailgate and if u see it from the side the bottom of the tailgate rattles a little so I think it might be that it's not 100% centered lol ohh well gave it a try) thnk you though

Sure it's not the rear seat ratteling. That's what mine was. Needed the feet screwed out.
No the seat is tight, I think it might be the rubber seals around the door, theyr pretty beat up. I compared them to the side doors and theyr anything close to it

hey, i also have a rattle, i turn my radio all the way up and blast that county music but i know where its at! haha check the rear sparetire tail light. it may be the plastic convulated tubing around the wiring...

It's your Jeeps way of expressing it's discontent at being called a car?

Most of the comments sound like jokes, but in truth, Jeeps always rattle. I'd probably start getting a little worried if mine stopped...

If it is a metallic, banging rattle, it's likey the striker that needs adjusting. (The striker pin is the big, round thing that your tailgate locks onto when you close up.) A large hex socket is required to adjust. I moved mine down slightly to get rid of the noise.

Just wanted to renew this thread as I had this problem today. I adjusted the black "alignment" plate below the striker loop. I loosed the two 10 mm nuts slightly, gently closed the tailgate, reopened the tailgate then tightened them down. Rattle is gone... 2011 JK 2 door.

I thought that was what bungee straps were for. Anti rattle straps.:thumb:

But seriously yeah it happens, those poor little hinges get tired holding up a monster tire/wheel and start to sag. Kinda like we do when we get older.:whistling:

Close the door and it has to climb up to fully latch, and it's tired from just holding the weight so it doesn't fully latch.

Adjusting the striker will help. If it doesn't, see sentence one above.:D
