So, we're thinkin' about getting an LJ, anything we should watch for?

With the twins now, the extra baby gear can be a bit confining sometimes in the TJ.

So, we've looked at one (the only LJ for sale in the area... that we won't be buying) and like it reaonsably well.

I've started poking around for an LJ in either Impact Orange or Lime Green. So to all you LJ owners out there, anything particular to the LJs that we should watch out for?

I definitely want both tops, manual transmission and LSD (I may see about trying to track down a Rubicon). I can't think of anything to be cautious of that wouldn't be the same for TJs but always good to tap experience.

The 2005, 2006, TJs and LJs have a known issue with the OPDA where the contact between the synchronizer gear and and cam gear wear down and can cause a catastrophic failure. This is further compounded by the fact that the OEM OPDA has a tendancy to bind up. Google Jeep OPDA to read all about it. Currently no proven "cures" to the problem. I'd say it's still probably safe to get one, but keep an eye on that cam gear and OPDA. If you get one, you might want to swap the OPDA out for a unit made by Doman.

Try and find an '06 if you are getting a 6 spd. They were upgraded with the stronger reverse gear and shifter linkage due to problems with the 05's and people screwing up their reverse gears from shifting them into reverse when they were trying to shift into 6th. The '05 and 06 LJ's (non-rubicon) also come with 4 wheel disc brakes and LSD. I can't remember for sure if the '04's do or not.
You will enjoy the extra room in the LJ.

Thanks for that info! Good to know. The one we looked at was an 06, but in that Moss Green. Didn't look terrible, but if I'm buying another, I'd like it to be what I want.

It may take a bit to find one in the color I want anyhow. I really wish they still had Desert Sand, but Impact Orange does look pretty good.

Look at the soft top frame. Directly above the doors. There's a silly little sliding locker that is plastic and easy to break if u get in a hurry. ( I know from a thunder storm incident ).

Check New Cars, Used Cars - Find Cars at AutoTrader.com
Several to choose from ranging from $16K to $23K in green and orange. Mileage varies along with distance from Indianapolis.
Carmax didn't have any listed.

Your Black LJ looks looks like my jeep's twin. They sure look nice with the top off and doors out. LJ

Sure do!

Just waiting for the weather to warm up here in Seattle to take everything off! I like those 35s you have. I'd like to go to 33s, but I'll have to wear these 32s out first
