Soft top

I am looking to replace my leaking soft top. I intend to switch from khaki to black so I need the top and upper half doors.

A few questions:

1. For Joe Average Consumer how hard is it to re-skin your OEM hardware? On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being easy, 10 being difficult).

2. I have considered going with a framelss (Rampage or Trek). Are the issues I've read about with the Trek tops ironed out? Specificaly the rear bow not staying in place, some screw for the sun rider part loosening and being lost and stitches comming loose.

3. Any reported issues with the Rampage tops? I read some reviewers mention zippers or zipper pulls breaking. I saw two versions are made? One called a trail top or something, I need one for a DD.

I've been out of the jeep scene for about 5yrs, are the smittybuilt and pavement ends tops any good? Last I knew those companies didn't have the greatest reputation but times change...

I just put a pavement ends replacement top on my tj this past Sunday. It was extremely easy. I had it done in about 20 minutes and I'm pretty mechanically challenged. The quality and fit is very good. If u already have the hardware the replacement skin is the way to go.....I'm very pleased with mine. I ordered mine from morris 4x4 center and with shipping it was about $350 so the price isn't bad either

I've got the Trektop NX and have had no issues with it other than the driverside bar of the sunrider wanting to come out at first. I just pulled the bars apart a bit and added a rubber bushing from Lowes and have had no problems since. I would definitely recommend the Trektop NX. It's a little more expensive but well worth it in my opinion. In regards to re-skinning you existing hardware "mcw302" is right. The replace-a-top is simple to install and my last one lasted me for around 5 years. A heavy snow did it in due to me neglecting scraping the snow off the top. I haven't had a snow with the Trek yet but it has a bar in the front to prevent sagging and it has worked in the rain so far.

For item 1. it is a 1 for Bestop fabric. I can't say for Smittybilt, Rampage ebay and others as far as fit.

I have the Rampage frameless fits nice tight, one seam was leaking when I washed it ran a tight bead of RTV on the seam. Just went through a rainstorm no leaks. Will post pics doing a drop tailgate conversion.
