Soft top destroyed.. options?

Hey guys, just got back from some wheeling. My bday is tommorrow, so some friends came up from VA and took me out wheeling. The winch we had (ramsey 8000lb) blew up trying to yank me out of a low spot in a creek. Long story short, a GMC Jimmy was lined up to yank me out backwards, so we went that route. 2 spoters, myself, and the driver, and non of us saw the tree he yanked me into untill it was too late

Guess thats something to be expected though. Anyway, the top got pretty tore up in the corner, huge hole, and the bar that runs in the middle of the window buckled pretty good.

What are my options, and where should I be looking for a new top? I suppose since my jeep is pretty much new, I should be looking at a mopar replacement, but quadratecs MOPAR top is 1200 and it comes with clear windows (mine are tinted, and should be replace anyway). I dont really have the money, in fact all I really have to my name right now is about 300. Guess I can put it on a credit card (hate to do that..) but I would deffinatly like to spend as least a possible, with a top of the same quality as OEM.

Thanks guys, ill get some pics up later.

How much is your insurance deductable? If it is a pretty much new jeep that's what you have insurance for.

OEM or aftermarket? I have heard the aftermarket ones are kinda shatty and a PITA to use, so I was trying to stay factory if possible. I dont plan on selling the Jeep ever, but we all know how that works out, and I would like to be able to get my money back later on down the road.

Anywho, here are some pics.

rear bar that buckled

Roll bar padding tear

Happy bday, huh?

no no, no inside joke. The pics of the top destoryed is a few posts up. I really only need the rear most bar (top bar not window bar), the fabric, and some windows, but I may take scout up on his offer if its the cheapest. My top is kakhi, and his is black, but I think it still may work since my jeep is really half tan half black anyway.

The pics penguin_in_a_cj posted are pics are from before we went wheeling today, and after the wheeling trip yesterday. He was the one that came from VA to go out wheeling. We met a few others while we were out.

Definitely stick with the OE mechanism, the aftermarket mechanisms are no where near as well designed. I would just keep my eye on various Jeep For Sale forums, Craigslist, and eBay for a used 2003 or newer soft top and mechanism. I see them for sale all the time.

how about a viking top? they don't require the soft top frame, only the door surrounds and a bestop drilless head channel. Still $595 though, but brand new.

ya the one I got was an aftermarket. don't know the quality on it yet seeing how I havent got it. but I live in oregon and a sh*$$& top is better than the half I have on there now. I'm also keeping my eye on craigslist for a good hard top for a good price. good luck on the hunt.

I think I am going to take up scout on his offer. My father works with a Jeep guy, who said he could get parts much cheaper than anyone else, so I am going to see what the fabric/windows/rear bar costs. If its more than scouts, I think I am going to take him up on it. Any idea how much shipping is to 21042 scout?

Anyone photoshop a pic of my Jeep with a black top instead of the tan? thanks.

I'll have to check into shipping (and packaging). Here's what it looks like on a Khaki Jeep:

Looks better than I thought it would. I have always thought that either the interior or the top should be a different color anyway, too much tan Like I said, lemme talk to this dude at my dads dealership tommorrow, see what he says, but I really doubt he can give me a deal like you can. As long as shipping isnt rediculously expensive I think I am gonna take you up on that offer scout.

Come to think of it, I may buy a bikini top, duster, windjammer, and your top all at once and just figure something out. Mine as well do it right I suppose?

Edit: Oh Btw, could you possibly send me a couple pics of it? No rush, just whenever you get a chance. Thanks bro.

Ok, I called my Jeep guy. Looks like I can get a Bestop Replace-A-Top for 550, frame/windows/top fabric. Takes 4 days to get here.

I dont want to publically say scouts offer, but lets just say according to him the top was used about 1 month, then garaged for a year, and if it was a car the payments would be about the same.

Now my question is, if it was you guys, would you take a like-new factory top that will take about a week to get here, and is a different color than your original, or take the aftermarket top thats a closer color?

Not really sure what I want to do yet. I was pretty set on scouts top, but my Jeep guy says the black top will look like poo on a kahki jeep . I wish there was a crystal ball or a mirror I could buy that will make decisions for me

If I'm not mistaken, Unlimited has a Kahki jeep and he's got a black top, but I'd have to check if it's the same color as yours. And as a chick, I can tell you black goes with everything.

I'd take the Black top ALL DAY LONG. The Bestop has about the best fit & finish of any aftermarket top out there, but it doesn't come close to the factory top.

I think the Black would look pretty bada$$ on your Khaki Jeep. You saw what it looked like in the picture Scout posted, so you know what it will look like.

Ya, I agree. I would deffinatly like to prolong the aftermarket top as long as I can.

Dealer wanted 350 bucks for the rear bar only... !

Scout, whenever you get a chance bud, lemme get some pics of your top and windows, and deffinatly find out about shipping for me. As long as shipping isnt $1,000 and you didnt destroy yours in 1 month, your my man!

... hopefully it doesnt rain untill then..

I'm taking some time off work on Wednesday afternoon. I'll get it out and take some pics of it for you. I have to run an errand over by the UPS store so I'll pop in and ask them about packaging and shipping. Look for a PM sometime late Wednesday.

Will that work?! I really didnt want to spend the 100 bucks, luckily I havent orderd yet!! How do ya strap a tarp to the jeep without it blowing away? I used to use twine at my old shop, but thats not really an option, cutting it away every time I leave work and home and all

Not really scout, if your moving your dont get wet I just need something to keep the radio and the instrument panel dry while its parked.

I picked up a 12ft x 24 ft tarp with some extra bungees incase I dont have enough. Hopefully we dont get a freak rain storm in the next few days.

Course this is the east coast..... I think ill be ok
