soft top frame problem

So, when I bought the Jeep the PO put the top down ( I did view it up and assumed no problems). Day 2 of owning the jeep, I drove down to quadratec to get a new top (factory one was from 1997 and worn). Bought a replacement top counting on a good factory frame and when I went to install it noticed the header is cracked on the one side and that the metal that holds the header to the side bar of the frame is non existant! rusted out. If I would have known, I would have went either with a frameless top or a replacement top that came with a frame. Now, I have been searching craigslist and ebay and everyone wants to sell tops with fabric for around $200 or cant ship the frame for under $100. Anyone know where I can get a cheap replacement frame for cheap? I dont care if frame is OEM or aftermarket just needs to be complete and functional. I will keep checking craigslist too.

or other question... is $200 a fair price for a frame?

right now the header is ductaped and doesnt seal tightly on the one corner.

money is alittle tight due to that I am getting the jeep lifted in 2 weeks (having a professional do it due to rusted out shocks)

Thanks

Hopefully you can find someone on here that just got a frameless top that will sell you the frame cheap. I'd try going to one of the threads of people discussing pros and cons of the rampage frameless and post the question. Or see if you can return your top and get a frameless.

Jeff Daniels Jeep near me is selling one for close to $200 that has top fabric. just feel like I am stuck buying fabric I dont need. had my top installed for a month now (jeep spent some time in the shop when I got it) so doubt they would take it back. Well, it is fuctional so it will have to do until I find a reasonably priced frame...

What top do you have? There is different hardware styles. If it's a Bestop, is it an Oem replacement? or their now "classic"
Top. The classic is their old style aftermarket. If it's still unused you can return it. people are most likely going to have the OEM hardware or the classic hardware from Bestop.

Edit: what's exactly broke? The soft top header?, those you can buy separate.

Yeah, that's probably too long to take back. Find someone on here that got the frameless and only buy what you need. From the posts I read of people loving their rampage tops, someone has to have a frame they want out of the garage. Search the posts and ask. PM someone with an offer. If my brother hadn't just got his jeep broken into and gave me his old tinted windows I'd be sending you my frame because I planned on getting that rampage top. That's why I was reading those posts. You'll find it on here easy.

the top is a factory replacement by pavement ends so it uses factory hardware (frame). I was going to get a new header but the metal that goes into the side pipe (sorry not technical) is completely gone. there is no metal pipe in the drivers side corner of the cracked header. we bent a piece of metal and inserted it into the header and the side for stability then ductaped the cracked header. luckily it is on the outside of the latch so at least that is stable for now. just afraid I am gonna destroy it putting the top up and down as often as I do

or I could try to sell the top I have to offset the price of a frameless since the top is only a month old and has tinted windows.

yeah, probably with the top down all my jeeps were kept outside with the tops up and NEVER had this happen. my brother still has my old 97 with original top frame. surprisingly there is no body rust and very minimal rust under. only major rust under the jeep is the shock casings and the shock bolts
