Soft top question

I just called a gentleman about a soft top he has for sale. Ask him what it fit and he said he replaced a top for somebody and the new box said 03-06. This is the old top that they took off. My Jeep is a 2000. I thought 97-06 was the same body style. Will this fit my Jeep.

Depends if you have the TJ or LJ

LJ's are a little longer in the back. If you post a pic someone can tell you what model you have.

They are the same body style, and but they tweaked a few small things over the years. Because of that 99% of them are the same, but that 1% differs. They changed the sound bar, and seats, climate controls among other stuff. Not real sure about the specific changes to the tops, mostly color, but I think they changed the zippers too. From other threads here on the forum, you may be able to use a whole top on any year but would need to be careful replacing parts due to color and zipper changes.

I thought they were only specified differently for tops because the roll bar padding is the thicker on the 03-06's. I could be wrong though.

There definitely is a difference in color (denim vs. Diamond). I have read posts about zipper differences but don't know about that. I doubt the padding would be an issue though since the soft top does not rest on the roll bars at all.

I recently bought a used softop complete with framework from CL. It came off a 2001. My jeep is a 2003. It did fit tight, but worked just fine. I also heard about the side window zipper pulls being different on the 03-06, but couldn't swear to that. I just had to go out and look at my jeep, and the roll bar padding doesn't touch any of the soft top, so I don't see how that would matter.
