Soft top rear window gap

I realized yesterday that is like a 1/2" gap between the back of the soft top and the tailgate. I figured this was normal and it was just designed for water to not get in there. I did some browsing and found out there is a strip that goes in there.

Can someone direct me to the part number? Would it be easier/just as good to go to Lowes and get a piece of weather stripping and slap it in there?

Yes I do. I will have to find something cheaper than that or I will be reverse engineering something!

Thanks though!

Waitaminute...

That says it's for the hard top. I need one for the soft top.

The tailgate bar is very handy - it not only secures the bottom of the rear window, but it allows you to open the tailgate while the soft top is up.

They do get lost - they slide out of the window while the top is off, and disappear into the depths of your garage. But make sure your top doesn't have that bar already there - it may be sitting on the bottom of the window, ready to pop into place. There are brackets on each side of your tailgate where the tailgate bar connects.

Quadratec search for "Tailgate Bar"

A closer look reveals that the bar (and brackets) are definitely there.

Problem: They popped the bar in upside down!!!

Guess I'll just pop that out and put it back in tonight.

I've been meaning to steal Infernogirl's photo of this, but keep forgetting:

The brackets are MOST LIKELY already bolted to your Jeep. They're on either side of the tailgate. They bolt on "permanently" so they don't get lost.

If you've never had a soft top before, or if someone you don't have the brackets, well, you need those too.

On the one hand, I'm glad it's there.

On the other hand, I feel like I just blew a $50 sale for my company.

Well, I would have returned it anyway when I went to install it.

My bar and brackets are in place and the bar is installed correctly ( cause the first time I put it in upside down ) and there is still a small air gap between the bottom ovf the back window and the tailgate.

I'm assuming this is normal so you can still open the tailgate ?..

The first year I had mine I had the bar in wrong and that gap was there. The next year I accidentally put it in correctly and felt like a tard.

But wait, it's summer. why is your back window in?

Just funnin' ya. but I'll tell ya what, ever since I Herculined the tub and pulled the plugs my rear and side windows have been out. It was raining so hard the one day with the wind blowing that the inside of my windshield got wet - and I had my doors on with those windows up!

Buy the 1 gallon kit. It comes with more than enough to do 2 coats. I only did it last month so time will tell on how well it holds up, but others claim it holds up well. I think it comes in colors. Maybe google Herculiner and see what you can find.
