No you are not alone....most take the top all the way off. After a few times of taking it off and putting it back on you get it down to a few minutes.

While some have added pull-pins that make removing the top more convenient, the factory uses four small torx-head screws to hold the two support hoops to the back of the center rollbar hoop.

Remove the four screws, two per side, then carefully push in and then down on the plastic tip to unlatch it from the bracket. It has a slightly tapered edge inside that locks it in place so if you just try to muscle it off the bracket, the tip has a nasty habit of breaking. Replace the screws back into the support hoop tips so they don't get lost while the top is off the Jeep.

Make them...very much cheaper.

Cotter pins...a few washers and cotter keys...simple...you can pick it all up at any hardware store.

Get a Besttop trail cover, they are completely waterproof, I've had mine outside for days in a row of rain with just the trail top, no doors, and it stayed completely dry!

Last year, I took the hard top off and never put the soft top back on until September! Definitely get the quick release pins, you may be able to rig them up at someplace like TSC?!

Get a folding star wrench. I can do mine real quick.
It's one of the first things I bought when I got my Jeep.

Quadratec's and 4Wheel Drive's catalogs also have those pull-pin kits. Personally, I just unscrew the four screws which only takes a few seconds so I see no need to spend the $$$ for pull-pins.
