Soft top year/model question

I have a 2001 TJ and have found a soft top with all hardware for $275 on craigslist near my home. Only catch is that its for a 2004-2006 model TJ. So I've been looking all over to see if there are any major differences... Any knowledge you guys might have would be much appreciated!
Thanks

That top will work fine on your jeep.

The only difference in soft tops that happened from 03 to 04 was that the window latches were made narrower.

So, you can use new tops on older TJ's but not vice versa (which is ok, as generally you wouldn't want an older top anyway).

I put an 06 top on my 2000. Fit like a glove.

Not true. Many people have older tops on newer. I have a 01 top on my 03. I have seen post indicating differences in latch widths. I have not personally seen it but posts also indicate a little trimming of the latch with a dremel is all that is needed.

275 is a great deal. Good condition tops go for around 400 and that may be w/ or w/o hardware. I got lucky and got my 01 sailcloth top w/ tinted windows and hardware for 250.

All 97-06 frames will fit all years. There is a slight difference in the frame and fabric size 97-02, 03-06. The windows also are not interchangeable. The zipper orientation is reversed.

Generally newer tops are more desireable for the saicloth fabric. 4 ply sail cloth started was 01-02 and three ply was 03+. Sail cloth replacement fabric is available from Bestop for 97+ tops.

$275 is a really good deal, but I would still check the zippers and the sewing on the seams before you pay for it. The guy may be trying to unload it at such a great deal so you just take it and run. You could find out when you get home that you should've just paid $400 for a good one.

Neil clears all the "Bestop Trivia" for $2000 Alex.
Please make sure to phrase it as a question!

Hey Geoff@Bestop, I have a great advertising idea for you, I haven't seen any of the new trektop's on TJ's here in southern oregon... send me one and a tire cover with your name on it and I'll be some of the best word of mouth advertising out there...

Hardware Question

Alright I got the top, it is in amazing condition, like new, with tinted windows.... needless to say it was a smoking deal. He gave me all the hardware that it had with it and I see some parts that I don't recognize from my 01 TJ. Was wondering if you guys could help me out and tell me what they're for?

The brackets are the pieces that bolt to the sides of the rollbar. You don't need them since you already have them from your old top.
Not sure about the straps. The longer ones are maybe to put around the windows when you remove them, to keep them rolled up. The short one is used when you fold the windshield down. It is used to secure the windshield down to the footman loop on the hood.
